SO?!!

A couple of weekends ago, the Roanoke Valley played host to soccer teams from across Virginia and several neighboring states in the Crestar Soccer Tournament. In the next couple of weeks, the World Cup, the biggest tournament in soccer, will be held at sites in the United States.

Of the 24 countries that will compete in the tournament, three teams have strong chances to be champions - Germany, which won the Cup when it was last held in 1990, Brazil and Italy.

Despite being an underdog, the United States has improved in soccer in recent years and has several good players, one of the best being Thomas Dooley. He was born in Germany and became a professional in the top German soccer league. But since his dad was an American who served in the U.S. Army and married a German, Dooley was able to become an American citizen. He did that in 1992 so he could play on the U.S. team in the World Cup.

The Science Museum of Western Virginia always has lots of fun activities to offer. If you're interested in reptiles, you might want to give the museum's Reptile Expo a try. Along with a live animal exhibit, you'll hear all about reptiles from herpetology specialists.

The expo, June 18, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. will feature alligators, pythons and rattlers. All special exhibits are free with admission to the museum.
