ALLISON, William Brown, 86, of Rt. 1, Draper, died Sunday, June 5, 1994 at his residence. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Ellis Hoge and Elizabeth Ruth Thompson Allison. He was a member of the Draper Valley Presbyterian Church, a retired farmer and carpenter, and a great lover of natural beauty. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Groseclose Allison; one daughter, Anne Allison Ervin, Triangle; two grandsons, Kenneth Bagby, Triangle, Corbett Ervin, Occoquan; one special niece, Dorothy Barnes; one special nephew, Jack Huddle; and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Barnett Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Preston Sartelle and the Rev. John Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in the Draper Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of arrangements.

BECKNER, Ida Mancie, 88, of Salem, died Sunday, June 5, 1994 at Richfield Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Beckner. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gracie Elizabeth and Ira Ferris, Salem; one sister, Mae Whitlow, Restertown, Md.; and several nieces. BRAMMER, William Dexter Sr., 77, of Salem, passed away Sunday, June 5, 1994. He was retired from General Electric in Salem and was a longtime employee of Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a Boy Scout Leader for many of his previous years. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows, Mount Dale Lodge #49. Mr. Brammer was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Brammer. Survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn Brammer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara B. and Jerry D. Blevins, Kathey B. and Larry K. Keys; two sons and daughter-in-law, William D. Brammer Jr., W. Michael and Tammy H. Brammer, all of Salem; sister and brother-in-law, Mary E. and Frank K. Robertson, brother and sister-in-law , Samuel D. and Corbette Brammer, all of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem with the Rev. Dave Huff of Grace Baptist Temple officiating. BURRELL, Kenneth C., 84, of Botetourt County, passed away Monday, June 6, 1994 in a local hospital. He was retired Vice President of the C. A. Nash Company, Norfolk, Va. Mr. Burrell was active in the Roanoke Moose Lodge #284 Bowling Association since its inception. He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Muriel M. Burrell; sisters, Olive Paddock, Bloomfield Hills, Mi., Estelle Smith, Grosse Pointe Shores, Mi.; nephew, Stephen Tobias and wife, Conni e, Virginia Beach; nieces, Elizabeth Lilgendahl and husband, Charles, St. Louis, Mo., Geraldine Paddock, Grosse Point Shores, Mi.; stepchildren, Dianne Fleharty and husband, James, Clinton Township, Mi., Susan LeFevre and husband Charles, Bloomfield Hills, Mi., Thomas Halton, Pontiac, Mi., Mary Anne Clark and husband, Robert, Clinton Township, Mi.; four nephews; eight grandchildren; three grand-nephews; one great-grandchild. CALDWELL, Rheita B. Price, 76, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, June 5, 1994, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mrs. Caldwell was born in Montgomery County, Va. on March 14, 1918, a daughter of the late Bud Henderson Price and Dove Collins Price. She was a retired employee of VA Tech's Food Service Department. Survivors include her husband, Howard W. Caldwell; four sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Judy Caldwell, Christiansburg, Randy and Bonnie Caldwell, Ronnie and Pat Caldwell and Bruce Caldwell, all of Blacksburg; two sisters, Pauline Songer and Geneva Rose, both of Christiansburg; two brothers, Roy Price, Princeton, W. Va., Bud Price, Wilmington, Del.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 1994 in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. EDDY, Carroll Baylor, 58, of Centreville, died Tuesday, April 5, 1994, at his home. He was a son of the late Mary Mosher and Frank Dewey Eddy, formerly of Roanoke. ENSMINGER, Margaret L. Weeks, 84, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, June 6, 1994, at Covington, Virginia, where she had been staying with her daughter. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Salem and then in Dale Ridge Church of Christ in Covington. She was born November 24, 1909, in Quinamont, W. Va. She was the first of six children born to George T. and Minnie M. Weeks. Both precede her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Nick Ensminger; and a daughter, Hannah I. Nagy. Survivors include a son, Lyle E. Ensminger, of Oxnord, Cali.; a daughter, Lois A. Paitsel of Covington; a sister, Lois Summers of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Jennings Weeks o f Rainelle, W. Va.; one beloved sister-in-law, Ruth Ensminger of Sycamore, Pa.; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews. McCOWN, John Graham, 75, of Roanoke, died Monday, June 6, 1994. Born to William Morrison and Sarah Montgomery McCown on November 6, 1918 in Rockbridge County, Va., he was reared in Rockbridge Baths. Dr. McCown graduated from Washington & Lee University in 1940 and from the Medical College of Virginia in 1943. He served as a physician with the U.S. Army Medical Corp as a captain in Occupied Germany for 16 months following World War II. He married Virginia Rideout McCown in 1944 and began his medical practice in Roanoke (the Williamson Road area) in 1947. Dr. McCown was on the staff of Lewis-Gale Hospital and the Shenandoah Hospital, where he served on the Board of Directors. He served the City of Roanoke as city physician for 35 years and as physician of the juvenile detention home for 20 years. Dr. McCown began Woodhaven Nursing Home in 1960, and served as president and medical director until 1990. He was an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, serving as elder, trustee and faithful Sunday School teacher from 1950 until the last few years. He was awarded Father of the Year for religious activities in 1981. He served in many capacities as a Lion with the Williamson Road Lions Club for over 40 years. Dr. McCown was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Rideout McCown. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia Ann and Malcolm A. Pace, Salem, Patricia M. and Howard F. Zax, Roanoke; grandchildren, Angela Marie Pace, Jennifer Leigh Pace, both of Salem, Jonathan McCown Zax and Sara Marie Zax, Roanoke; sister, Mary McCown Donato, Roanoke; a niece, nephew; many loyal friends, relatives and patients. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Memorial Fund at Northminster Presbyterian Church or to the Alzheimers Association of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Northminster Presbyterian Church by the Rev. David A. Kirk. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. SLAYDON, Allen Jackson, 55, of Salem, passed away Sunday, June 5, 1994, at Mountain Lake. He was an active and beloved member of the Roanoke Valley Antique Car Club and Blue Ridge Model A's. Allen served eight years in the U.S. Army Reserve and was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church. He was employed with U.S. Air and Piedmont Airlines for over 32 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Jackson Slaydon. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy (Sweetie) Slaydon, Salem; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Debby Slaydon, Salem, Michael and Sandra Slaydon, Roanoke; two grandchildren, Cory and Nicole Slaydon; his beloved mother, Annie Beatrice Slaydon. Also surviving are two brothers, Clifford Slaydon, James Slaydon and his wife, Joyce, all of Roanoke; two sisters and their husbands, Eleanor and Robert Garlick, Shirley and Al Day, both of Roanoke. TOTTEN, Bessie Snider, 87, of Richmond, formerly of Radford, died Saturday, June 4, 1994, in Richmond. A Smyth County native, she grew up on Snider's Branch. She came to Radford in 1924. She was a graduate of Radford State Teacher's College, now Radford University, where she majored in mathematics. After graduation, she taught in one-room schools in Smyth and Montgomery County, Va. She taught in Floyd County and taught plane and solid geometry, trigonometry and calculus in Pulaski High School from 1943 until retirement at the end of 1970-71 school year. She was the widow of James C. (Red) Totten, owner and operator of the Old Spani sh Grille and Totten's Esso Service Center in Radford. She was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Loraine Minetree; and a grandson, Carl Lamar Minetree, both of Richmond; also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Emma Kate Beckham; and a brother, Albert G. Snider, both of Roanoke. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Earnest Chinault officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford.
