BELL, Ruth Crouch, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, June 6, 1994. She was the widow of James B. Bell and a member of Crystal Spring Baptist Church. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James B. and Mary Bell, West Chester, Pa.; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy B. and Calvin Rohrbaugh, Salem; granddaughters, Kimberly R. Hagood, Roanoke, Taryn R. Lovern, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, James Bell and John Bell both of West Chester, Pa.; great-grandchildren, William Hagood, and Lauren Hagood. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Crystal Spring Baptist Church, PO Box 8116, Roanoke, VA 24014. Services will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday at Oakey's North Chapel by the Rev. Harry E. Leland. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Buchanan. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m Wednesday, at Oakey's North Chapel.

CARBAUGH, Charles Roland, 78, of Pembroke, VA, died Tuesday morning, June 7, 1994, in a Pearisburg hospital. Born in Giles County, he was a son of the late Charles William and Sarah Burton Carbaugh. Roland was retired from the Virginia Department of Highways, where he operated heavy equipment and served as a carpenter. He was the father of the late Sarah Bell Carbaugh and grandfather of the late Greta Breeden. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Bailey Carbaugh; two daughters, Mary Ann Carbaugh of Salem and Wanda Carbaugh Coble of Pembroke and a son-in-law, Freddie Coble of Pembroke; four brothers, Elliot Carbaugh of Oceana, W.Va., Fred Carbaugh of Eggleston, Va., Oakley Carbaugh of Narrows and Frank Carbaugh of Eggleston; one sis ter, Isabell C. Stokes, Blacksburg; three grandchildren, Rodney Radford, Kathy Coleman and Tony Rader; five great-grandsons, John and Seth Coleman, Grant Sexton, Dalton Rader and ``Opie'' R. L. Radford Jr. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 9, 1994 in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at Pembroke at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearsburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.

COX, Rev. Dr. J. Powhatan, 69, of Ridgeway, died Monday, June 6, 1994, in Martinsville Convalescent Center. He was born in Waverly on May 7, 1925, to the late Elkanah T. Cox and Corrie Cox Cox. The Rev. Dr. Cox was a retired Southern Baptist minister and pastored the Memorial Baptist Church in Pulaski from 1970 to 1984. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Schoel Cox, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Elizabeth C.) Moyer, Elverson, Pa., Nancy E. Cox, Lynchburg; a sister, Ann C. Adams, Midlothian; granddaughter, Erin Moyer. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ridgeway with the Rev. Roger Stanley and Dr. Chevis Horne officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemtery, Ridgeway. The family will receive friends at McKee Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m.

GRAVELY, Frederick Morrison, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 1994. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Skeen Gravely. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Ronald Gabor, Roanoke; beloved granddaughters, Morgan Brittany Gabor, Lauren Ashley Gabor; one sister, Louise Luckado, Roanoke; one brother, Robert Gravely, Roanoke; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Lois Skeen, Raymond and Betty Skeen all of Roanoke; also surviving, several nieces and nephews. PLASTER, Gregg L., of Washington, D.C., and formerly of Salem, died Tuesday, May 31, 1994. Mr. Plaster was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School and the Medical College of Virginia. He was an administrator of nursing homes for many years. At the time of his death, he was president of HCSS, a company he formed six years ago, providing speech, physical, and occupational therapy. He was the beloved son of Paul and Thelma Plaster; brother of Jerry Plaster; brother-in-law of Nancy Plaster; uncle of Alex Plaster. Services were held at St. James Episcopal Church, 222 Eighth St. N.E., on Thursday, June 2, 1994. Interment was in Sherwood Burial Park, Salem. PRUETT, Virginia H., 74, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, June 7, 1994, in a local nursing home. Mrs. Pruett was the widow of Lewis D. Pruett. Surviving are three sisters, Clara H. Pruett, Roanoke, Ruby H. Duncan, Bent Mountain, and Jacqueline H. Bell, Copper Hill; one brother, Wallace Hale, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews. TOTTEN, Bessie Snider, 87, of Richmond, formerly of Radford, died Saturday, June 4, 1994, in Richmond. A Smyth County native, she grew up on Snider's Branch. She came to Radford in 1924. She was a graduate of Radford State Teacher's College, now Radford University, where she majored in mathematics. After graduation, she taught in one-room schools in Smyth and Montgomery County, Va. She taught in Floyd County and taught plane and solid geometry, trigonometry and calculus in Pulaski High School from 1943 until retirement at the end of 1970-71 school year. She was the widow of James C. (Red) Totten, owner and operator of the Old Spanish Grille and Totten's Esso Service Center in Radford. She was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Loraine Minetree; and a grandson, Carl Lamar Minetree, both of Richmond; also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Emma Kate Beckham; and a brother, Albert G. Snider, both of Roanoke. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Earnest Chinault officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford.

VAUGHN, Lucy Rochester Vann, 63, of 250 Wayside Dr., Weyers Cave, died Tuesday, June 7, 1994, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Thursday June 2. A daughter of Luther Rochester and Martha Payne Vann. She was born on December 21, 1930 in North Carolina. She lived the majority of her life in E agle Rock, before moving to Weyers Cave nine years ago. Mrs. Vaughn was a member of the Harrisonburg Baptist Church and an active member of the church's XYZ Club. She was also a homemaker. On April 23, 1949, she married Mr. Charles R. Vaughan who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Susan Kiser, Harrisonburg, Martha Carolyn Weaver, Hampton, Rebecca Stull, Troutville; and Laura Lucas, Weyers Cave; eight grandchildren; one sister, Ida Fizer, Bassett; and one brother, Luther R. Vann Jr, Winston-Salem, N.C. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Harrisonburg Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Reynolds and the Rev. T.W. Johnson Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Eagle Rock Cemetery at 4 p.m. The members of the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lindsey Weyers Cave Funeral Home. WIDNER, Michael Douglas, 35, of Rt. 2, Fries, passed away Monday June 6, 1994 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Widner and a daughter, Kelly Widner, both of the home; his mother, Thelma Robertson Widner, Fries; father, Thomas Widner, Texas; two sisters, Lisa Kirby, Texas; Michelle Warrick, Galax; one brother, Ricky Widner, Christiansburg; and several nieces and nephews. WILCOX, Billy A., 65, of Rocky Mount, died Tuesday, June 7, 1994, in the Veterans Hospital. Mr. Wilcox worked for the Miami Herald for twenty years and returned to Rocky Mount where he was co-owner and operator of the Rocky Mount Pastry Shop. He was a member of the Furnace Creek Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Bessie Routt Wilcox and two brothers-in-law, Richard H. Sprouse and Paul E. Yates. Surviving are four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Nellie W. Sprouse, Roanoke, Mary Jane and Walter Yates, Margaret W. Yates, all of Rocky Mount, Peggy and W.N. Cullifer, Va. Beach, one brother and sister-in-law, Butch and Mary Ann Wilcox, Rocky Mount; many nieces and nephe ws, including one special great-niece, Kayla Cramblitt, Rocky Mount; a special friend, Lena Morris, Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 1994, at the Arrington-Bussey Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Troy E. Mays officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. WILLIAMS, Lynwood David Sr., 51, of Blue Ridge, passed away Monday, June 6, 1994. Surviving are one son, Lynwood D. Williams Jr., Cloverdale; two brothers, Bassel M. Williams, Reginald (Reggie) Williams, both of Blue Ridge; his mother, Oma Rosetta Williams; four sisters, Hilda R. Williamson, Nedra I. Ferris, both of Blue Ridge, Linda M. Shrewsbury, Hardy, Mary W. Shelton, Moneta. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 1994, from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Don Eade officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. WULFKEN, Howard Julius, 72, of Salem passed away Monday, June 6, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Audrey R. Wulfken; daughter and son-in-law, Christine and David Engler of Seattle, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathy Wulfken of Medina, Ohio; grandson, Phili p John Wulfken; brother, Arnold Wulfken of Brooklyn, N.Y. Mr. Wulfken was a member of College Lutheran Church, served on the board and several committees. He was member and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Salem Rotary Club. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII. Mr. Wulfken was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a devoted alumnus of Polytechnic University in Brooklyn. He joined the General Electric Co. in 1943 and served 42 years, the last 28 years in Salem where he was manager of the test and evaluation laboratory before he retired. He helped found the head start program in this area and served on the board of the Speech and Hearing Clinic of the Roanoke Valley. He was past Commodore of the V.I.S.A. Yacht Club, past flag officer of the Power Squadron and member and officer of the Elfun Society and active in their computer program. He was a volunteer at the Science Museum of Western Va. Planetarium and board member of Stonegate Swim Club. A memorial service will take place at College Lutheran Church at noon on Thursday, June 9, 1994, with Pastors Dwayne Westermann and Robert Ward officating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to College Lutheran Church or the Howard J. and Audrey R. Wulfken Endowment Fund at Polytechnic University, at 6 Metrotech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Arrangements by John M. Oakey & Son Salem Funeral Home.
