In fact, the racing program was completed that night after the cleanup of debris.
Investigator Doug Tuck of the Wythe County Sheriff's Office said a car went off the track and landed on the roof of a truck in the pit area.
Robert Waller Sr. of Ivanhoe, Kimberly Mullins of Speedwell and Carlton Stoots of Max Meadows were knocked off the back of the truck.
Waller was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where his condition was reported as good. Mullins and Stoots were treated at Wythe County Community Hospital and released.
Tuck said he thought all three were lucky to be alive. The driver of the car was not hurt.
The collision knocked the truck into a parked car. Gas leaked from the race car and was contained by the Rural Retreat Fire Department.
