COMPANY'S PLAN TO EXPAND OK'D

A Franklin County manufacturer of framed mirrors and other furniture accessories was given the go-ahead Tuesday night by the Board of Supervisors to more than double the size of its facility off Virginia 919.

A rezoning request by Uttermost Corp. was approved unanimously by the board at a special meeting called to consider the matter.

The company's president, Robert Cooper, said Uttermost has recently widened its customer base and has seen an increase in orders from existing markets.

The company's 33,000-square-foot plant will be expanded by 52,200 square feet. The expansion could create up to 100 new jobs, Cooper said.

Supervisor Homer Murray said the rezoning "is a great thing for the county."

Site preparation for the project has already begun, Cooper said, and construction is expected to be completed around Nov. 1. The project cost is estimated at $850,000, and the contract was awarded to Martin Bros. Contractors Inc. of Roanoke, he said.
