BENNINGTON, Virginia Eastridge, 85, of Rt. 1, Speedwell, Va. died Wednesday, June 8, 1994, in the High Point Regional Hospital. She was born in Ashe County, N.C., the daughter of the late Roby J. and Hattie Scott Eastridge. She was the assistant county treasurer and secretary for Smyth County for many years. She was a member of Blue Springs United Methodist Church; a member of the Senior Citizens and was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Bennington. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Estie Bennington of High Point, N.C.; three grandchildren, Shayne, Michael and Sarah Bennington; her stepmother, Lillian O. Eastridge of Johnson City, Tenn.; three sisters, Ozella E. Vines of Kingsport, Tenn., Stella Maude Counts of Truth or Consequences, N.M., Gladys Yarbrough of Greensboro, N.C.; three brothers, Ernest S. Eastridge of Newport, Tenn., Roby H. Eastridge of Kingsport, Tenn., J. Vance Eastridge of Johnson City, Tenn. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 10, 1994, 2 p.m. at the Blue Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Edwards and the Rev. Randy Frye officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be take to the church one hour before service time. The family will receive friends at the Lindsey Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m .Thursday. Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat, Va. is in charge of the arrangements.

BURFORD, Addie Lucille, 95, of Bedford, died Wednesday, June 8, 1994. Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday, Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel.

CLARK, Virginia Kathleen, 70, of Rt 2, Hardy, Va., died Wednesday, June 8, 1994. Mrs. Clark is survived by her husband, Clyde W. Clark; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Clark Viette and husband, Scott, Roanoke, Rita Holden and husband, Dene, Orlando, Fl.; three grandchildren, Tiffany Katharina Viette, Dyann Holden and Chris Holden; one brother, Earson Huffman, Roanoke; four sisters, Ruby Crawford and Thelma Brillhart, both of Roanoke, Bobby Livingston, Charleston, S.C., Alva Harmon, Jacksonville, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel noon Monday, June 13, 1994, with Rev. Sam Crews officiating. Interment in Coopers Cove Cemetery, Franklin County, Va. The family will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

COLEMAN, David Conrad, 80, of Staunton, Va., formerly of Salem, died Wednesday, June 8, 1994. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor Walters Coleman. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis A. C. and Kenneth L. Cox, Greenville, Va., Lelia C. and Daniel F. Reece, Loganville, Ga.; grandchildren, Andrew David Coleman Cox and Emily Caroline Reece; sister, Dorothy C. Sitter, Newbury Park, Calif. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 10, 1994, 11 a.m. at East Hill Cemetery, Salem with the Rev. Kenneth A. Price officiating. A memorial service will also be held on June 10, 1994, 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Staunton, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, at the John M. CROWDER, Lillie Ratliff, (``Polly''), 89, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, June 7, 1994. She was a former employee of American Viscose and was a longtime employee of Ideal Laundry and Dry Cleaners. Mrs. Crowder was the widow of Mac C. Crowder and was preceded in death by her son, Max Lee Crowder. Surviving are a grandson, Dr. Don L. Crowder and his wife, Connie,Burlington, Wisconsin; three great-grandchildren, Shelby, Kerry and Slade Crowder; her sisters, Lottie Hicks, Hattie Doyle both of Roanoke; her brother, Joe Ratliff, Roanoke; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's North Chapel, Friday, June 10, 1994, 10 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne C. Harrison officiating. Interment in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel.

GREEN, Ernest Maynard, 78, of Route 1 Callaway, died Tuesday, June 7, 1994 in a Salem Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Ardella Green; one daughter, Mrs. Franklin (Gladys) Nichols, Callaway; four sons, Harold Green, Roanoke, Roy Green, Copper Hill, James Green, Floyd, David Green, Check; 7 stepchildren; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; 1 stepgreat-grand child; four sisters, Mrs. Sherwood (Audrey) Nichols, Mrs. Cecil (Bertha) Guilliams, Mrs. Reecie DeWeese, Miss Mary Lois Green; three brothers, Ervin Green, Luther Green, William (Bill) Green. NEWMAN, Ethel Mae, 79, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, June 6, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood P. Newman. Survivors include one sister-in-law, Lillian Newman, Roanoke; two nieces, Joyce Payne of Roanoke and Maribell Wormly of Richmond; one nephew, Lewis Newman of Roanoke; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, 2 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Herman Word will officiate with interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday fro 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

NUCKOLLS, Earl Garland, 88, of Galax, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 1994, at Waddell Nursing Home. He was born in Grayson County on April 25, 1906, to Leona Mitchell Cornett and Stephen Nathaniel Nuckolls. He is a direct descendent of Margaret Swift and Captain Robert Garland Nuckolls who were pioneer settlers of Grayson County in 1785, following the Revolutionary War. He was a businessman and Vice-President of Pless Electric and Furniture Company. He was a former member of the Galax town council, charter member of the Galax Lions Club, chairman of the Galax Welfare Board and a life long member of the Galax First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Virginia Josephi ne Witherow. He is survivied by two sons, James Garland Nuckolls, M.D. and William Eugene Nuckolls; one granddaughter, Faison Johnson Nuckolls and three grandsons, James Garland Nuckolls, Jr., William Eugene Nuckolls, Jr., and Stephen Witherow Nuckolls. A graveside service will be held in Felts Memorial Cemetery, Thursday, June 9, 1994, 11 a.m. with the Reverend Kenneth M. Perkins officiating. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Nuckolls Foundation For Youth, First United Methodist Church, Galax.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lewis P. and Lera Scott Radford and was a member of Endicott Assembly of God Church. Surviving are his wife, Betty J. SHOCKLEY, Clerin E., 77, of Hillsville, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 1994. He was born on January 5, 1917, in Carroll County, a son of the late Heath H. Shockley and Mellie Martin Shockley. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a 45 year member of the Dalton Hill Christian Church, and a 44 year member of the Hillsville Masonic Lodge No. 193, A.F.&A.M. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Hicks Shockley; a daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Shockley Ross and Dale R. Ross; a son, Eugene G. Shockley, all of Hillsville; a daughter, Judith Shockley Parson of Jacksonvill e, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Mamie Shockley Taylor and Ray P. Taylor; a brother and sister-in-law, Everette M. Shockley and Maggie Cochran Shockley, all of Hillsville; and six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 10, 1994, at 3 p.m. in the Open Door Christian Church, Training Center Road, Hillsville, by the Rev. Winfred Bowers. STEWART, Martha, 94, of Lexington, died Wednesday, June 8, 1994, at Camelot Hall Nursing Home, Salem. Born October 23, 1899, in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary McLaughlin. Mrs. Stewart was a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church and was the widow of Mr. William R. Stewart. Surviving are one daughter, Dorothy Stewart Mahla, Lexington; one son, William R. Stewart, Vinton; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 11, 1994, at 11 a.m. from the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Richard Webster officiating, with burial in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. STUMP, Ora Ferris, 74, of Copper Hill, died Tuesday, June 7, 1994, in a Roanoke nursing home. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Howard Ferris; one son, Shelton L. Stump, all of Copper Hill; granddaughter, Christina Sixbey, Roanoke; two sisters, Ruby Sloane of Copper Hill and Minnie Sewell of Toccoa, Ga. TUCK, Thelma Dalton, 83, of Vinton, died Tuesday, June 7, 1994, in a local hospital. She was the widow of Moncie C. Tuck, a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church and retired from Stone Printing Company. Surviving are a son, Warren C. Tuck, Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Bobby E. Bays, Vinton; a granddaughter, Dana; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Coleman; brothers, Harold Dalton, Jack Dalton; sisters, Edith Moore, Gladys Ballenger, Juanita Elliott, all of Gretna; special friends, Gladys Feathers, and Freda Bays, both of Roanoke, Billie Griffith, Vinton. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 1 p.m. Friday, June 10, 1994 with the Rev. Charles Hoffler officiating.
