SUTHERLAND GETS SHAWSVILLE JOB

Shawsville has hired Darrell Sutherland as its new football coach, replacing interim coach Jerry Cannaday.

This will be the first head coaching job for Sutherland, who has been on the Shawsville staff for the past two years. Sutherland was defensive coordinator this past year and was the secondary coach two years ago.

"I think we've got a good group of young athletes and can be very competitive in the Three Rivers District," said Sutherland.

The new coach played football at Annandale High in Northern Virginia, though he was in only four games as a senior because of a knee injury.

He played college football at Wingate College in North Carolina, and finished work on his degree at Virginia Tech. While there, he was a student teacher at Shawsville.

Cannaday is the athletic director at Shawsville. He filled in as football coach last year during an emergency.
