SITE ACCIDENT SERIOUSLY INJURES CONSTRUCTION WORKER

A Wiley Construction Co. worker was seriously injured Wednesday morning when he fell more than 20 feet and landed on a concrete foundation.

Milton D. Bayne, 37, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital by helicopter, according to the Salem Police Department.

Bayne suffered head injuries and multiple fractures to the right side of his body, said Salem Rescue Squad Chief Ray Houff.

The accident happened around 11 a.m. in an industrial area on Southside Drive in Salem.

Bayne was attempting to secure a crossbeam to a support beam, when the crossbeam moved and caused him to lose his balance, said Salem Police Sgt. David Rhodenizer.

After several hours of surgery, Bayne remained in the operating room late Wednesday, said a nursing supervisor at the hospital.
