RELIGION BRIEFS

A VACATION CHOIR SCHOOL is scheduled this summer at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, 1706 Grandin Road S.W. The first session, which is for children 3 through first grade, will be July 11-13 daily from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $8 and activities will include singing, rhythm training and learning about orchestral instruments.

The second session, which will be for children in the second through sixth grades, will be Aug. 8-12 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The cost is $10.

Participants will plan for and perform a musical to be presented Aug. 14 at the 11 a.m. service. Enrollment in both sessions is limited. Call Phyllis Wampler, director, at 344-6011 for registration.

\ A HAITIAN REFUGEE FAMILY has arrived in Roanoke under sponsorship of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church. It includes Prophete and Rosita Paul and their three young children. The Pauls worked as an electrician and dressmaker in Haiti.

\ SUNDAY SUMMER SCHEDULE is in effect at two Southwest Presbyterian churches. Covenant Church has set worship at 10 a.m. with an education program for children 2 through 8.

Colonial Presbyterian also has changed its worship time to 10 a.m. for the summer. There, Sunday school for children will coincide with worship.

\ WOODLAWN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH is sending seven youth on a Society of St. Andrew Harvest of Hope gleaning project July 10-16. The young people will harvest commercially useless vegetables on Eastern Shore farms, and then the produce will be trucked to community food banks.

\ THE REV. JAMES BURTON, pastor and member of Westhampton Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since 1980, and his wife, Ann, were honored May 22 on their departure from Roanoke. Burton, who served the church as pastor until 1986 and later as a member, has become minister of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in New Martinsville, W.Va.

\ ROSALIND HILL BAPTIST CHURCH, Brandon Avenue at Langdon Road Southwest, has scheduled vacation Bible school June 26-July 1 nightly from 6:30 to 8:30. Children 2 through 10 may be enrolled by calling 344-7888 or by attending an opening fair on June 26.
