IN SCHOOL

HOLLINS COLLEGE named several Roanoke Valley students to the fall 1993 semester dean's list.

They are: Stephanie Shea Allman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John K. Allman Jr.; Debbie Dianne Brown, daughter of Brenda Robertson; Chelsea Marie Eichelberger, daughter of Lynda McGarry and Stan Eichelberger; Bethany Leigh Blankenship, daughter of H.R. and Melody Blankenship; Laurie Beth Mooney, daughter of Ronald and JoAnn Mooney; Sherry Ann Poff, daughter of Ricky and Lesley Poff; Krista Suzanne Thomas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. \ CADET RUSSELL BOOTH, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Booth of Roanoke, was named to academic honors for the fourth grading period at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham.

Booth is a freshman at the school.

\ WESTERN VIRGINIA REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS from the Roanoke Valley have been announced. The awards and winners are as follows:

Grand awards - Mariana Abraham of Patrick Henry High School, and Amy Patterson of Lord Botetourt High School; alternate winners: Kristi Alger, Patrick Henry, and Jason Sprinkle, Lord Botetourt. The awards include a $2,000 renewable Roanoke College scholarship.

Hollins College award - Abraham and Patterson. The $1,000 scholarship is renewable.

\ MELISSA ANNE WILLCOX, daughter of Phillip G. Jr. and Judith E. Willcox of Roanoke, has been named to "Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities." She is studying family and child development and early childhood education at Virginia Tech.

\ MARY ALICE BARKSDALE-LADD, assistant professor at West Virginia University's College of Human Resources and Education, recently received a WVU Foundation Award for for Outstanding Teaching.

Barksdale-Ladd is a 1972 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ MARK L. FERGUSON, son of Sandra Ferguson of 2813 Clarendon Ave., has been named a Bonner Scholar at Guilford College.

The scholars program is based on community involvement and believes that college students have a unique and important contribution to make to society.

\ ESTHER B. CIRASUNDA has been listed in both Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education. Cirasunda also was included in the 23rd edition of the Dictionary of International Biography and nominated for Who's Who of Women.

Cirasunda has worked in the Roanoke Public School system for 19 years and is Garden City Elementary School's library media specialist.

\ ROANOKE COLLEGE recently award the Roanoke College Medal to four alumni from the Roanoke Valley: Rev. Guy "Tex" Ritter of Salem; William M. Moir of Roanoke; and Weldon T. Lawrence and Doris Wright Lawrence of Hollins.

The award recognizes outstanding alumni who represent the ideals of responsible leadership, intellectual integrity and good citizenship through their professional accomplishments and service to their communities and alma mater.

\ GEORGE BRENT SHORTER, son of Margaret P. and George W. Shorter of Fairway Forest Drive, is the recipient of a scholarship in North Carolina State University's 1993-94 John T. Caldwell/Merit Awards Program competition.

Shorter will graduate from Cave Spring High School this spring.

\ SARAH E. MOORE of Roanoke recently was selected to the Longwood College chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society. Moore is a senior majoring in English.

\ KELLY DIERKER, daughter of Richard and Judy Dierker of Roanoke, has been selected to serve as a residence assistant at Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, N.C. Dierker is a freshman.
