DICK CLEMMER, chairman of Patrick Henry High School's Tech Prep Committee, and ELAINE WOOLWINE, principal of Gibboney Tech Center, were presenters at the National Tech Prep Network Spring Conference. They gave a workshop entitled "The Tech Prep Seal: Don't Leave School Without It" and represented Patrick Henry and the Roanoke Area Tech Prep Consortium.

\ L. TEMPLE FORSYTH and GARLAND LYNN , both of Roanoke, were named to the third quarter high list at Episcopal High School.

Forsyth, a sophomore, is the daughter of Logan and Louise Forsyth. Lynn, also a sophomore, is the son of Mr. and Mr. Richard M. Lynn.

\ BEAUFORT MARTIN, son of Geneva Martin of Roanoke, received the Myrtle Bell Lane Scholar Award at Lynchburg College. This award is based on academic performance, contribution to the School of Business, extra-curricular activities and financial need.

\ SAMANTHA HUFFMAN and JULIE REED of William Byrd High School, placed in the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference. Huffman placed fourth in the state in office procedures, and Reed placed fourth in the state in word processing competition.

\ VIRGINIA WESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE has named the recipients of Donald Willson Memorial Scholarships, which are presented to the best actor or actress and best technician. The recipients were: Josh Cokendolpher, Mary Jane Conklin and Jason Ward. All are members of a drama workshop class at Virginia Western.

\ KATHERINE DENISE MOORE, daughter of Dennis and Mary Moore of Vinton, was the recipient of the Red Foley Award at Berea College. This is awarded to students who make significant musical contributions to the social life of the campus.

\ EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE has announced the names of Roanoke Valley students who have graduated.

Those from Roanoke are: Melissa Lynn Bassett, daughter of Doris and Herbert Fischer, double major in French and political science; Beth Eileen Blankenship, daughter of Judy and Ron Blankenship, psychology; William Todd Creasy, son of Linda Creasy and Michael Creasy, political science and geography; Derek Scott Elmore, son of Georgene Elmore and Wayne Elmore, management; William Travis Jones, son of Jean Lawrence and William Kyle Jones, management; Brian Edward Leland, son of Rev. Harry and Nila Leland, history; Ernest Preston Maddy, son of Claude L. Maddy, Sr., management; Scott Gregory Pruner, son of Carol and Robert Pruner, management; Terri Noel Smith, daughter of Margaret H. Smith and Hal and Sharon Smith, management; and Annette Marie Wizorek, daughter of Jayne Wizorek and John Wizorek, interdisciplinary English.

From Daleville: Jack B. "Trey" Mundy III, son of Sue and Jack Mundy, management.

\ ROY BARTON JR., a William Byrd High School senior, has been selected to be a member of the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps.

Members of the corps will perform in parades and festival and othe competitions during summer.

He is the son of Roy Barton Sr. and the late Martha Barton of Vinton.

\ WILLIAM BYRD HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT MEMBERS have written material that has been published in a book, "Teaching Environmental Economics: Concepts and Strategies."

The science teachers involved are: Dennis Casey, Linda Catron, Richard Kelly, Billy Meador, Betty Smones, and Betty Ward. The book is as collection of labs to teach environmental economics to students.

\ DEBBIE WILLIAMS, a German teacher at William Byrd High School, has been selected to participate in a course "Attaining Oral Proficiency in German." The participants will live in the German house at the University of Virginia for three weeks and will study German language, culture and post-war Germany.

\ AMANDA L. BELANGER, daughter of Robert R. and Marian P. Belanger of Roanoke, received the Greater Roanoke Valley Scholarship at Virginia Intermont College's Honors Day ceremony. She is a freshman.

\ FERRUM COLLEGE has announced the names of its graduates from the Roanoke Valley. They are:

From Roanoke - Amy E. Colgrove, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Colgrove, B.A. degree in liberal arts; Myra A. Johnson, (magna cum laude) daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Johnson, B.S. degree in psychology/dramatic and theater arts; Robert L. Richards, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Richards, B.S. degree in environmental science; Jason E. St. Clair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy St. Clair, B.S. degree in environmental science; and Jimmy L. Saunders, son of Mrs. Rosa Booker, B.S. degree in pre-professional science.

From Vinton: Melissa D. Barton, daughter of Sandra Barton, B.S. degree in liberal arts; Brad J. Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Davis, B.S. degree in accounting; William G. Henderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Fizer, B.S. degree in social studies; and Bryan E. Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Barry Martin, B.S. degree in marketing/management.

From Salem: Hollie Hall Flynn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hall, B.S. degree in psychology.

From Troutville: Glen R. Radford, son of Mrs. Lois Radford, B.S. degree in environmental science.

\ CRYSTAL P. SIMPSON and KENNETH W. LANIER JR. have won scholarships at Virginia Western Community College.

Simpson, a second-year education major, is the recipient of the Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Payne Scholarship. She is a graduate of Northside High School. In addition to her full-time studies at Virginia Western, she works part time for American Family Life Assurance Co. She will attend Hampton University in the fall to earn a degree in psychology.

Lanier, a second-year electrical engineering technology major, is the recipient of the Continental Societies Inc. Scholarship. He will attend East Tennessee State University in the fall and pursue a degree in biomedical engineering. He also works at American Medical Supplies.

\ AMY MOFFITT and ISHA EDMONDS, students at William Fleming High School, placed in the Creative Writing Contest of the Arts Department, sponsored by the Woman's Club of Roanoke. Moffitt won first place, and Edmonds was second place in poetry. Moffitt will advance to state competition.

\ CADET RUSSELL BOOTH, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Booth of Roanoke, was named to the academic honors list at Hargrave Military Academy for the fifth grading period. He is a freshman.

\ TIFFANY MONIQUE SPEAKS, a 1994 Duke University graduate, is a recipient of the William J. Griffith University Service Award.

The award honors the university's vice president emeritus for his community work.

\ STEVEN SLAN, son of Richard and Jo-Ann Slan of Vinton, received his bachelor of science and pharmacy degree from the University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy. He is a 1988 graduate of William Byrd High School and will pursue a doctorate in pharmacy at the university.

\ BRENDA E. DULANEY of Roanoke was accepted to National Business College's dean list for the final winter term.

\ ANDREA ELIAS of Roanoke was appointed orientation director at the University of Tennesse in Knoxville. To be considered for a position, students are required to have two letters of recommendation and a minimum GPA of 2.25.

Elias is a public relations major.

\ AVERETT COLLEGE had 11 Roanoke Valley students in its 1994 spring graduation.

Receiving bachelor of business administration degrees are: Robert Daniel Bowles; Flora Tan Cantor, magna cum laude; Gary Wayne Davis; Ann Margaret K. Harvey, summa cum laude; Hazel Chappell Law; Danny Leon Musselman; Nancy Goin Thomas, cum laude; and Debra Holt Walters, all of Roanoke; and James T. Rose of Salem.

Daniel Amadu Grey and Dale Cameron Amos, both of Roanoke, received master of business administration degrees.

\ BARBARA BOYLE LEMON of Roanoke has received an award from the National Network on Women as Philanthropists for her work at Randolph-Macon Woman's College. She is a 1957 magna cum laude graduate of the college and is serving on the college's board of trustees. She also is a sustaining member of Junior League of the Roanoke Valley, an elder at Second Presbyterian Church and works with numerous Roanoke Valley civic organizations.

\ SUSAN JOHNSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Page Johnson of Roanoke, has been selected for membership in Mortar Board at Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C. Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes outstanding students who have excelled in academics, service, and leadership.

She also was selected for membership Omicron Delta Kappa Society.

\ LYNCHBURG COLLEGE has inducted four Roanoke-area students into Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. They are: Kathryn Franke, daughter of Walter and Bernice Franke of Salem, a junior communications major; Heather Hartman, daughter of Michael and Terese Hartman of Roanoke, a senior life sciences major; Debra Lovelace of Roanoke, a graduate student in personnel management; and Michael Wolf, son of Leonora Wolf of Roanoke, a junior political science major.

\ MARY CATHERINE MILLER, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. Milton Miller of Roanoke, won the first place award in the North Carolina Ultrasound Society 1994 Scientific Exhibit Competition.

\ HOLLINS COLLEGE named several Roanoke Valley students to the fall 1993 semester dean's list.

They are: Stephanie Shea Allman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John K. Allman Jr.; Debbie Dianne Brown, daughter of Brenda Robertson; Chelsea Marie Eichelberger, daughter of Lynda McGarry and Stan Eichelberger; Bethany Leigh Blankenship, daughter of H.R. and Melody Blankenship; Laurie Beth Mooney, daughter of Ronald and JoAnn Mooney; Sherry Ann Poff, daughter of Ricky and Lesley Poff; Krista Suzanne Thomas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Thomas; Amy Denise Underwood, daughter of T.J. and Darla Underwood; and Stacy Lynn Davis, daughter of Gary and Susan Davis.

\ JULIE ROBINETTE, daughter of Stephen and Teresa Frye and Guy Robinette of Roanoke, earned a 4.0 grade-point average in her first semester of graduate school.

Robinette is working toward a master's in occupational therapy at Shenandoah University in Winchester.

\ DONNA ATKINSON of Roanoke recently earned the Certified Medical Assistant credential by passing the American Association of Medical Assistants' Certification Examination.

Atkinson, a graduate of National Business College in Roanoke, is employed by Carilion Service.

\ WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY has announced the names of Roanoke Valley students who were named to the dean's list for the winter term. They are: Ashley E. Bell, sophomore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Houston Bell Jr. of Salem; Jennifer B. Royster, sophomore, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R.L. Royster Jr. of Roanoke; Elizabeth G. Weaver, junior, daughter of Holly L.H. Weaver of Roanoke; and Meredith G. Winn, sophomore, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Winn of Roanoke.

\ NADIA S. GUERTLER and CHRISTINE GRECUS have been selected to attend the Governor's Academy of Foreign Language.

Guertler will attend the German Academy at Randolph-Macon College, and Grecus will attend the Japanese Language Academy at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Hampton.

\ ADDRINE M. PUCKETT, daugher of Teresa Bailey, has been named a United States National Award winner in art by the United States Achievement Academy. The Academy recognizes less than 10 percent of all American high school students.

\ DUKE UNIVERSITY named the following students from Roanoke to the dean's list for the 1993-94 academic year: Nicole Ann Basile, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Joseph Basile; Sarah Katherine Laughon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth C. Laughon; Catherine Michelle Obenshain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph B. Obenshain; Harriet Augusta Vance, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel F.
