John Cusolito, spokesman for Liberty Mutual at its home office in Boston, said the personal insurance claims section will be consolidated with the company's operations in Fairfax. Business claims will be consolidated with the branch at Richmond.
Cusolito said 29 people now work in the Roanoke claims office, but an appraiser for personal insurance claims will remain here. The other 28 are being offered transfers to Fairfax and Richmond.
Those who choose not to leave the Roanoke area will be offered any jobs available here, he said. That includes several new positions as field representatives who will be based throughout the region.
Employees who decline a transfer and fail to obtain other jobs with Liberty Mutual will be eligible for severance pay and outplacement services, Cusolito said.
Cusolito said the centralized offices, along with the appraiser and the new regional field representatives, will be able to offer customers full service.
The Roanoke office also houses loss-prevention personnel, business and personal sales staffs and human resources, the spokesman said.
The other divisions will not be affected by the consolidation of the claims operation.
Cusolito said the consolidation will begin immediately and will be completed by the end of September.
