Salem Museum honors Roanoke WWII veterans
"Remembering World War II", an exhibit that details the Roanoke Valley's experiences during the war, is now on display at the Salem Museum.
It features photographs of Col. Howard Hammersley, a native Roanoker who served as chief photographer for the Mediterranean Allied Air Force, and personal items from many local veterans and residents.
The museum will hold an open house to honor the veterans from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1264 Colorguard also will hold a commemorative ceremony at 1 p.m.
The museum is located in Longwood Park, and there is no charge for admission.
