HOUSE VOTES TO HELP BOSNIA

The House on Thursday told President Clinton in a firm voice to unilaterally lift the arms embargo on Bosnia, rejecting his stated preference for international agreement to permit arms shipments to the beleagured Balkans government.

Frustration with fitful international efforts to protect Bosnian Muslims from Serb agression in what had been Yugoslavia produced healthy majorities against Clinton's policy on two consecutive votes, which had been delayed for two weeks in deference to his trip abroad to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Europe during World War II.
