`SLICKERS' IS TOO MUCH CRYSTAL

Judged as a sequel, "City Slickers II: The Secret of Curly's Gold" is a pale, uninspired take on the original.

But seen as a career-massage for producer/co-writer/star Billy Crystal, it's a resounding triumph. Seldom, if ever in the history of Hollywood has one man given himself so many close-ups, so many extended soliloquies, so many tidbits of comic business. Charter members of his fan club may find the film a joy. Other moviegoers won't fare so well.
