Hollins tops $1 million

Hollins College has announced that it has met the first milestone in a $1.5 million challenge grant from the William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust of Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Kenan Trust challenged Hollins to raise $1 million for its permanent endowment for each of three years. If raised, the Trust would award $1.5 million for endowment purposes.

Hollins President Jane Margaret O'Brien announced recently that the college had topped $1 million and was close to reaching its second million.

The Hollins endowment funds 13 scholarships, the Wyndham Robertson Writer-in-Residence program, a partially funded artist-in-residence program, and the Louis D. Rubin Jr. Writing Semester, which offers creative writing and contemporary literature programs for undergraduate women at other colleges.
