PAYNE RENOMINATED FOR 5TH DISTRICT SEAT

Democrats in the 5th District unanimously renominated Rep. L.F. Payne, D-Nelson County, on Saturday at a meeting attended by Virgil Goode, candidate for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination.

Payne was unopposed for his party's nomination. He will face Republican George Landrith in November.

The 5th District includes Bedford, most of Bedford County, plus Martinsville and Franklin, Henry and Patrick counties.
