PLANE CRASH KILLS 2 IN CULPEPER COUNTY

A single-engine plane clipped a tree Saturday afternoon, crashed into a corn field and burst into flames, killing a Texas man and his wife, authorities said.

The plane, identified as a 1962 Cessna 210, crashed just before 3:30 p.m. on the Lord Willing Farm in Culpeper County, state police said.

Pronounced dead on the scene were Don Weldon Stringer, 53, and Jo Buckley Stringer, 51, both of Tulia, Texas, state police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said.

The Stringers were flying to Virginia to visit their son in nearby Manassas, Caldwell said. The couple's son told state police his parents left Texas on Saturday morning and stopped in Kentucky to refuel the plane, Caldwell said. While in Kentucky, they called him to say they would arrive in a few hours. That was the last time he heard from them. - Associated Press
