Bryan William Thomas was killed almost instantly when he failed to yield to a speeding car in Chesterfield County, said Jean Thomas, his mother. She said the car, which was traveling more than 50 mph in a 25 mph zone, struck the side of her son's car, throwing him 75 feet. Two passengers suffered concussions.
Thomas played varsity soccer and started as the fullback last fall for Glenvar's football team. He was involved with the drama and monogram clubs.
Jean Thomas said she couldn't remember all the other school activities in which her only child had participated. "He just loved life."
A scholarship fund has been set up in Thomas' name, to be given to outstanding senior football players at Glenvar.
Friends may visit the family at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home after 2 p.m. today. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Park.
