BALSTON, Margaret Jenkins Russell, 85, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, June 14, 1994 at a hospital in Salem. She was a native of Orme, Tenn. and the daughter of the late Jerry Jones and Manassa Lee Melton Russell. She was a retired telecommunications operator and a Resident Director at Central State College in Missouri. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Russell Brown. Mrs. Balston is survived by one brother, Dr. Carl M. Russell, Salem; one niece, Debra Lee Russell, Atlanta, Ga.; two nephews, Roger Russell, Atlanta, Ga., Russell Bryant, Lancaster, S.C.; one brother-in-law, Charles Brown, South Pittsburg, Tenn. Services will be conducted from the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tenn. at 1 p.m. CDT, Thursday, with the Rev. Bill Garrett officiating. CAMPBELL, Junior Walter, 66, of Rt. 1, Clifton Forge, died Monday, June 13, 1994 at the VA Medical Center, Salem. He was born in Clifton Forge on November 3, 1927, son of the late James Walter and Georgia Vess Campbell. He was a retired brakeman for the C. & O. Railroad Company and served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Robert Arritt Jr., Roanoke; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Jay and Laura Campbell, Covington, Forrest and Sue Campbell, Ridgeley, W. Va., Rocky Campbell, Clifton Forge and Stoney Campbell, Raleigh, N.C.; one sister, Willie Truitt, Clifton Forge; a dear friend, Pattie Schooler, Clifton Forge; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Campbell. Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 16, 1994 at 11 a.m. in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Rt. 1, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. CARTER, Mary Ann Lee, 63, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, June 10, 1994. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with Bishop George Hash officiating and burial in Williams Memorial Park. CRAMER, Catherine Johnston Cramer, 80, of South Boston, died June 12, 1994, at Berry Hill Nursing Home. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Carol Cramer Hall of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Mr William Eugene Hall of Roanoke, Mrs. Kathryn Paterson of Dunwoody, Ga., Mrs. Carey Williams of Buford, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Johnston Edmondson, of South Boston and Mrs. Harriette Johnston Smith of South Boston; one nephew, Mr. Robert H. Edmondson Jr., of South Boston. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 1994, at 2 p.m. with services at the graveside. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

DUDLEY, Dr. Frank Humbert, prominent Franklin County physician, died Tuesday, June 14, 1994 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born on August 25, 1923 in Martinsville, Va., the son of the late Dr. Gastave B. Dudley and Priscilla Humbert Dudley. Dr. Dudley received his medical education at the Medical College of Virginia, graduating in 1958, and served his internship at Roanoke Memorial Hospital from July 1958 until June 1959. He had previously graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was associated with the Wolfe Medical Group in Rocky Mount, Va. for fourteen years and established the Glade Hill Clinic, which he operated for twenty-two years. he maintained active staff privileges with Franklin Memorial Hospital from June 1959 through April 1973, courtesy privileges from February 1979 through April 1, 1994, and honorary staff afterwards. During this period of time, he had served as president of the medical staff and trustee from January 1963 until December 1967. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Practice, the Virginia Medical Society, Roanoke Medical Association and the Southern Medical Association. Dr. Dudley was actively associated with the financial and industrial institutions in the county, elected to the Board of Directors of First Virginia Bank, Franklin County, on May 20, 1980, and to the Executive Committee on January 22, 1985. He was also elected to the Board of Directors of Mod-U-Kraft Homes, Inc. in 1979, where he served as a member of the Stock Option Committee. He was an active member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and served on the Administrative Board and as an usher. He was a veteran of World War II, serving four and one-half years in Europe. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Gardner Dudley; his daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Robert T. Ellis, Wytheville; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David K. Clements, Rocky Mount, Va.; four grandchildren, Anne Wellington Ellis, Megan Barnette Ellis, Benjamin Dudley Clements, and Brooke Shively Clements; a brother, Samuel C. Dudley and wife, Anne, Richmond; a nephew, Dr. Samuel C. Dudley Jr., Richmond; and a niece, Beth Dudley, Richmond. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17, 1994 at 11 a.m. at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, Rocky Mount, Va. Officiating will be Rev. William K. Dawson. DUNCAN, Clovis Lee, 66, of Parrott, passed away Monday, June 13, 1994 at Radford Community Hospital. He was a retired employee of the Lynchburg Foundry with 38 years of service. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Duncan. EPPERLY, Earnest Edward, 75, of Christiansburg, died late Monday, June 13, 1994, in a Salem hospital. Surviving are his wife, Mary L. KEMP, Elder Berlon W. , 67, of Roanoke, fell asleep in Jesus on Monday, June 13, 1994. His loving kindness and generosity will be sadly missed in this world by all his friends and family. He was an elder of the Primitive Baptist faith since November 1956 and joyfully served the Lord as pastor of Stonewall Primitive Baptist Church in Check, Va. since 1971 and also served as assistant Pastor of White Oak G rove Primitive Baptist Church since the early 1970's. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II in the Philippines and China. Mr. Kemp has been employed as an electrical designer and estimator since 1965 for several electrical and architectural firms. He was the son of the late Wise and Lena Alderman Kemp and born in Kimball, W.Va. March 18, 1927. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Cosby E. Kilby Kemp; one daughter, Rebecca E. Chandler, Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard M. and Cindy H. Kemp, Salem; three grandsons, William D. Chandler Jr., Phillip A. Chandler, Evan M. Kemp; four granddaughters, Shawn D. Chandler, Kara S. Chandler, Mrs. Steven ( Keenan) Labiosa, and Kelley Kemp; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Curtis E. Kemp, Wheelerburg, Ohio; sister, Lucille Huff, Portsmouth, Ohio. NICKERSON, Clarice Luther, 88, of Blacksburg and Kennebunkport, Maine, died Monday, June 13, 1994 at her Blacksburg home. Born in Mystic Seaport, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Reverend Clair Franklin and Edith Bouton Luther. She was also predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, William Brinsmade Nickerson, and her sister, Mildred Luther Adams. A 1927 graduate of Mount Holyoke College, she served on the staff of the Boston Atheneum prior to her marriage and devoted countless hours in her later life to genealogical work on behalf of the Nickerson and Luther Historical Family Associations and to the restoration and catalog work of the Kennebunkport Historical Society. She single-handedly initiated and organized an effort to reconstruct the historical cemeteries of the Kennebunkport region, and was widely recognized in the area as a symbol of inspired, devoted and tireless community service. She was active in the First Congregational Church of Kennebunkport and was especially grateful for the warm friendship and support she found there. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David Luther and Mary Carole Nickerson; her grandsons and their wives, Dr. Michael David and Dawn Drewry Nickerson, Gary Wayne and Karen Lawrence Nickerson, Robert Ranald and Lisa Miller Broyden; and five great-grandchildren, Michael David, William Brian, Drewry Elizabeth, Bradford Ryan, and Morgan Elise Nickerson. Clarie also leaves a wide devoted circle of family relationships and special friends, including Mrs. Vivian Fessenden and her family, members of the Allen and Adams families, and her many Nickerson nieces and nephews and their families. Prior to her death, Clarie requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Kennebunkport Historical Society or Kennebunkport Emergency Service, or the First Congregational Church. Funeral services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Blacksburg for the Virginia family and friends on Friday, June 17, at 2 p.m. and a memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Kennebunkport at a later date. NUTTER, Buford S., 58, of Florence, S.C., died Monday, June 13, 1994, in a Florence hospital after a long illness. Mr. Nutter was born in Blacksburg, Va. a son of the late John E. and Emma Gertrude Linkous Nutter. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He had lived in Florence since 1978. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Marie Eanes of Martinsville; and one brother, Nelson Wade Nutter of Blacksburg. OSBORNE, Mary Capps, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, June 12, 1994 at Richfield Nursing Center in Salem. She had been very warmly received on moving to Blacksburg in 1983, having lived until then in her hometown of Jacksonville, Illinois. Her husband of 51 years, Samuel N. Osborne, died in 1978. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Bill Mackie, Blacksburg; grandchildren, Christy Mackie, Richmond, Linda and Malcolm Griggs, Charlotte; and great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth and Michael Riley Griggs. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 1994 at Christ Episcopal Church, Blacksburg. Burial will be in Jacksonville. SAUNDERS, Doris Curtis, 70, of Roanoke, formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away Sunday, June 12, 1994 in Burrell Nursing Center. She was a member of Maple Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William ``Jack"" Saunders, parents, Albert A. and Myrtle Curtis, a sister and a brother. She is survived by two sisters, Mildred Owens, Anniebell McKee; a brother, Ernest A.Curtis, all of Baltimore, Md.; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; special nephew, Ronald L. SPRACKLIN, Frederick Lloyd, 89, of Radford, formerly of Chelsea, Mass., died Monday, June 13, 1994 in the Radford hospital. He was a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge of Florida, retired Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, eye donation Lions program and a member of Christian Church in Florida. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; daughter, Barbara Eherts; two grandsons, David and Todd; three great-grandsons. Cremation was in Salem. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Salem Chapel.

SUTTON, Nelson Lafayette IV, (``Zak''), 16, of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Roanoke, died Monday, June 13, 1994, as the result of an automobile accident. He was a student at Friends School of Baltimore. Surviving are his father, Nelson Lafayette Sutton III, Baltimore, Md.; mother and stepfather, Constance Burnett Hoyt and David Painter Hoyt, Charlottesville; maternal grandparents, Jack M. and Nanette B. WILLARD, James Elwin Sr., (Eggie), 78, of Blacksburg, died Monday, June 13, 1994 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mr. Willard was born in Carroll County on May 29, 1916, son of the late James Oscar and Elva Princess Webb Willard. He was self-employed as a plumber. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Marine in the Pacific. He was a member of the Odd Fellows of Blacksburg for 60 years and Magic City of Salem for 54 years, a member of the American Legion of Blacksburg for 40 years, and was a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Reba Bowles Willard; one son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Juanita Willard, Blacksburg; one daughter and son-in -law, Debra W. and John Kilby, Blacksburg; three grandsons, Dean, Tony Willard and wife Karen, Blacksburg, James (Jim-Bo) Willard, Aldie, Va.; two granddaughters, Peggy Whitaker and Angela Kilby, Blacksburg; two great-grandsons, A. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Westveiw Cemetery with a graveside service by the Blacksburg #20 Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 to service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 446, Christiansburg, Va. 24073 or to a charity of your choice.
