The bride wore a pink dress and a triple strand of pearls. The groom wore a blue suit and a two-tone gray tie. They were given away - to one another - by their adult sons. And after what could be called a whirlwind courtship of a dozen weeks or so, 81-year-old Pattie Lyons of Radford and 84-year-old Herman Elkins of Dublin were married.
The June 4 ceremony was held at the bridegroom's home, where more than 20 friends and relatives gathered to witness the nuptials. The newlyweds, a living testimony to the ageless nature of love, will reside in Dublin.
Winners of People's Choice Awards at the recent NEEDLEWORK EXHIBIT are Adrena Palmer for a handsewn baby dress; Dot Jones for a blacksmith in needlepoint; Grace Karnes for a knitted wool sweater; and Betty Gordon for her crocheted pineapple doily.
Susan Sowers took first place in the cross stitch category, while Muriel Cloe was second and Virginia Webb placed third.
