PEARISBURG - Mayor-elect John H. Givens Jr. and newly-elected council members, Mose Adams, Barabra Stafford, Becky Moses, will be sworn in today at 4 p.m. in the upstairs courtroom of the Giles County Courthouse.

The public is welcome.

Internet imaging

ROANOKE - The special collections department of the University Libraries at Virginia Tech will demonstrate digital imaging over the Internet to a personal computer Saturday during the Norfolk and Western Historical Society annual meeting at the Airport Marriott. The society meeting is being held Thursday through Saturday.

Now a pilot project, the program eventually hopes to have available on-line 30,000 digitized images of cars, engines, stations and other scenes of the Norfolk and Western Railway and its predecessor lines.

The system plans to eventually link with a smaller Canadian database which has similar information related to North American railroads.
