Heiilig Meyers Co., Richmond-based home furnishings retailer with stores in Western Virginia, said net earnings rose 36 percent to $18.3 million, or 37 cents per share, in its first quarter ended May 31, compared with $13.5 million, or 29 cents per share a year earlier. Revenues for the quarter rose 44 pecent to $268.8 million from $186.8 million a year earlier.
Circuit City Stores
Circuit City Stores Inc., Richmond consumer electronics retailer, reported net earnings of $19.7 million, or 20 cents per share, for its first quarter, ended May 31, up 14 percent over $17.2 million, or 18 cents per share, a year earlier. Sales rose 31 percent to $1.05 billion compared with $799 million a year earlier.
Eagle-Picher Industries
Eagle-Picher Industries Inc., Cincinnati parent of the Wolverine gaskets plant in Blacksburg, reported net income of $14.7 million, or $1.33 per share, for its second quarter ended May 31. That compares with $11.5 million, or $1.04 per share, a year earlier. Sales for the quarter were $197 million compared with $176.4 million a year ago.
