MDA SERVICES RECEIVE MORE THAN $10,500

Several fund-raising events have raised more than $10,500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Children at Vinton Child Development Center Head Start hopped for two minutes to raise more than $400. Kristina Fitzgerald, who collected $220, was the top money raiser. Youngsters at Roanoke's Round Hill Child Development Center raised more than $100 in their hopping contest..

The 12th annual Roanoke Valley Harley-Davidson MDA Poker Run raised $10,000 for the association. Participants either paid an entry fee or collected pledges for a 60-mile ride. Riders collected poker cards during the run; winning hands determined the amount of money given to the MDA.

Proceeds from the events will be used to sponsor monthly clinics, summer camps and provide other patient services for Roanoke Valley families who have relatives with muscular dystrophy.
