ROANOKE MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE

Roanoke police charged a 36-year-old Southeast Roanoke man in the rape of a 54-year-old woman at the Friendship Inn, 526 Orange Avenue N.E., late Tuesday.

Raymond Earl Aliff Jr. of Rutrough Road Southeast was released from jail Wednesday afternoon after he posted $1,000 bail.

The victim told police that she, a male relative and Aliff were in the motel room. The relative left for about 20 minutes. At that time, the victim told police, Aliff tore off her clothing and raped her.

When the relative returned to the room, he heard the woman yelling. The door to the room was locked. The woman was able to free herself and open the door for her relative. Police were called to the scene at 11:09 p.m.
