Lewis-Gale Fun Run to be held Saturday

Entries are being accepted for the 16th annual Fun Run sponsored by the Lewis-Gale Foundation.

The five-mile run and two-mile walk/run begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the old courthouse on East Main Street in Salem.

Registration is recommended before the race, and a fee is required. All proceeds will benefit foundation programs.

For an entry form or more information, contact the Salem Parks and Recreation Department at 375-3057.

Football club sign-ups scheduled for Friday

Heights Club and Optimist Club football sign-ups will be held Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson Middle School.

Players ages 7 to 10 may sign up for the Heights Club and players ages 11 to 13 may sign up for the Optimist Club.

For Heights Club information call Danny Bass at 345-4827, and for the Optimist Club, Skip Allen at 776-0420.

Salem Suns team wins fast-pitch tournament

The Salem Suns defeated the Richmond Palatan Rockers 12-2 to win the championship of the Magic City Sprinkler Invitational men's fast-pitch softball tournament at the Moyer Sports Complex on Sunday.

Salem pitcher Jobie Overstreet was the tournament MVP, allowing four hits in the title game.
