AKER, Homer P. Sr., 85, of Atkins, died Wednesday, June 15, 1994. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, Marion Baptist Church. Arrangements by Seaver-Brown Funeral Service, Marion.

ALTIZER, Scott Austin, 17, of Riner, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 1994, in a drowing accident. He was a 1994 graduate of Floyd County High School. Survivors include parents, Gene & Rosie Altizer, Riner; brother, Glen Altizer, Riner; grandparents, Hassel L. and Lillie D. Altizer, Riner. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd with Dr. Clint Coakley and the Rev. Kenny Wurzburger officiating. Interment will follow in White Rock Cemetery.

CLAXTON, Hattie Josephine Ford, 74, of Elliston, died Thursday, June 16, 1994. Arrangements by Grant E. Bryant Funeral Home, Elliston.

COOKE, Mary Reach, 67, of Route 3 Box 108, Waynesboro died Sunday afternoon, June 12, 1994 in Waynesboro Community Hospital from injuries substained in an auto accident on May 17 in Waynesboro. She was born on June 19, 1926 in McCalla, Alabama, daughter of James Usury and Lanis Burke Reach. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Joseph R. Alexa. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Sharon) Higgins of Roanoke; two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor R. Atkins and Mrs. Morene R. Pugh of Route 3, Waynesboro, six nieces and nephews, Lynn Moon, Donna Wheeler, Robert C. Pugh, all of Waynesboro, Keane D. Pugh Jr. of North Carolina, Lynda Bush and Wyman B. Atkins, Jr., both of Florida; googwo grandsons , Phillip and Paul Higgins of Roanoke; and a special friend, Calvin ""Sonny"" Lambert. A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, in Augusta Memorial Park Mausoleum conducted by Reverend Will Heyward. Arrangements by Waynesboro Chapel of Etter Funeral Home. FINNELL, Mary Jane, 73, of Moneta, died Thursday, June 16, 1994. Arrangements by Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.

FOSTER, Annie Witt, 71, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 1994 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born April 23, 1923 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Oswald L. Witt and Alice Wright Witt. She was retired from General Electric, Salem, was active in many civic activities in the Roanoke Valley, and has been a member of the Oakland Baptist Church since1954. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 17, 1994 at 11:00 a.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. Kelly Dampeer. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

GIBSON, Goldie A., of Atkins, Virginia, died Wednesday, June 15, 1994. Funeral Saturday 11 a.m., Seaver-Brown Chapel. Arrangements by Seaver-Brown Funeral Service of Marion.

McDONOUGH, William W. (M.D.), 65, of Richmond, died Wednesday, June 15, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of thirty-six years; a daughter, Captain Amy M. Griese, USAF of Alexandria, Va.; a son, Kevin W. McDonough of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Jean Jennings of Winston Salem, N.C.; a brother, Donald R. McDonough of Arlington, Va. and one grandson, Eric W. McDonough. His remains rest at the Joseph W. Bliley Central Chapel 3rd & Marshall Streets, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and where services will be held 2 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the William W. Mcdonough Professorship Fund, Box 980710, MCV, Richmond, VA 23298. A private interment will be held at a later date.

MYERS, Lucile M., 88, of Roanoke, Va. widow of the late Arthur J. Myers, died Wednesday, June 15, 1994, at Westport Convalescent Center, Richmond, Va. She is survived by her son, Carlos Gerald Myers; sisters, Ressie Dale of Orlando, Fla. and Clara M. Keffer of Roanoke, Va.; one grandson and granddaughter; four great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of Wildhurst Presbyterian Church. PENDLETON, Sybilla Helms, 43, of Christiansburg, died Thursday, June 16, 1994, at her home. An employee of C & P Telephone Company with 25 years service she is survived by her husband, James G. Pendleton; two sons, Joe T. Hilton, Jon R. Hilton of the home; a step daughter, Tina Dawn Pendleton, Norton, Va.; step son, Michael Pendleton, Blacksburg; her parents, Paul and June Helms, Christiansburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Evans and Shirley Helms, Portsmouth. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 1994, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Dr. Maurice T. McCarthy, Jr. with burial in Sunset Cemetery. PERKINS, Thelma Jean, 54, of Narrows, died Wednesday afternoon, June 15, 1994, at her home. She is survived by two sons, James Edward Perkins and David Wayne Russ, both of Narrows; her mother, Nelvina Smith of Narrows; sisters, Mrs. Marie Royer of Princeton, W.Va., Mrs. Nancy S. Riddle and Mrs. Lois S. Riddle, both of Narrows; three brothers, John R. Smith of South Hill, Allen E. Smith of Narrows and Tony D. Smith of Asheboro, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Oakdale, W.Va. with Minister David Stauffer officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. SHAFER, Walter Scott, 90, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, June 15, 1994 in Heritage Hall Nursing Home. Born November 25, 1903 in Springwood, he was the son of the late Preston George and Lillie Shorter Shafer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Bell Miller Shafer. He was retired from Bernson Silk Mills. Survivors include two daughters, Marion S. Staton, Buena Vista and Betty Shafer, Natural Bridge; two sons, Pastor Dan Shafer, Shacklefords, Va. and Fred Shafer, Hampton; two sisters, Ruby Chaplin, Buena Vista and Clara Muri, Cherryville, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 1994 at Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Shumaker and Elder Larry Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lomax Funeral Home.

SNIDER, Celia Ellen, 83, of Pembroke, died Wednesday evening, June 15, 1994 in a Pearisburg hospital. Born in Russell Co., she was a daughter of the late Nathan and Mary Musick Cochran. She was the wife of the late Frank William Snider and a member of Calvary Christian Church in Pembroke. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and Joe Broadwell of Pembroke and Martha and Reggie Jennelle of Pearisburg; two sisters, Edith Wilson of Pembroke and Oscie Shew of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday 11 a.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke with the Rev. Bobby Sutphin and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery at Newport. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 to 9.

THURMAN, James Edward, 63, of Roanoke, died Thursday morning, June 16, 1994, at his home. He was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railways East End Shops. Surviving is his wife, Mary Basham Thurman; daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Robert Lewis, Roanoke, Susan and Wendell Witt, Bedford, Jennie Thurman, Salem; three grandchildren, David Lewis, Carter and Sarah Witt; sisters, Thelma Haupt, Mabel Mitchell both of Roanoke; brothers, Lewis Mitchell, Moneta, George Thomas Thurman, Vinton. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18,1994, with the Rev. Lewis Garst officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
