STORE ANNIVERSARY

Bob Thomas of Classic Country 1460 (WRAD, 1460 AM) and CD Country (WRIQ, 101.7 FM) will be on the air live Saturday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., from the First Street Grocery. The store - owned by Ann and John Miles - is celebrating its first anniversary with giveaways and store specials.

Thomas also will be the public address narrator for the Civil War battle recreations Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Newbern. The Battle of Cloyds Mountain was the first to use a public address narration. Thomas worked with Wilderness Road Regional Museum, the event's sponsor, to develop the running-commentary concept, which has been picked up by other battle-scene recreations in Virginia.

Brian O'Donnell is the host of a weekly call-in show featuring drivers and officials of the New River Valley Speedway on Thursdays at 5:45 p.m. over WRAD and WRIQ. Listeners get a chance to win tickets to the race that Saturday.
