COLLEGES W&L'S TRACK STAR MAKES HONOR TEAM

Recent Washington and Lee graduate and track star Scott Covey of Chesterfield has been named to the GTE Academic All-America College Division Men's At-Large first team.

Covey was the only athlete from any of the state's Division II and III schools named to the team. He carried a grade-point average of 3.93 in mathematics.

Covey is the 18th GTE All-Academic All-American at W&L, including the fourth first-team selection.

Radford University women's basketball coach Luby Lichonczak has promoted Tricia Cullop to a fulltime assistant's position. Cullop toiled as a restricted earnings assistant under Lichonczak during the past season. She fills the position left open by the resignation of Joe Mathews, who recently left for a job at Butler University.

Bridgewater College is playing host to a Cincinnati Reds open tryout camp for ages 15-22 next Tuesday. The camp, which begins at 9 a.m. on the Bridgewater field, is being conducted by Cincinnati scouting supervisor Bob Trumbo, an alumnus and former baseball player for the Eagles.
