ETC. RUMLEY AMONG STARS AT NEW RIVER

A star-studded field is expected for the Shelor Chevrolet 200-lap Late Model Stock Car race tonight at New River Valley Speedway in Radford.

Busch Grand National driver Johnny Rumley of Winston-Salem, N.C., will make his second start of the year and challenge the NRVS regulars. Rumley is the former Winston Racing Series Mid-Atlantic champion who recently signed a six-race agreement to drive on the Busch circuit.

Floyd's Jeff Agnew heads the weekly competitors with nine wins in 12 starts. Tony McGuire, Tink Reedy and Michael Ritch have the other victories.

Ritch, another former Mid-Atlantic champion, scored his first decision of the season last Saturday night.

More than 25 cars are expected for the second 200-lap race of the year at the .416-mile paved oval.

Also on the agenda will be a 35-lapper for the Limited Sportsmen and 25 each for the Mini and Pure Stock drivers.

As a special attraction, the first Fan Appreciation Night of the year will be held. Prior to the race, fans will be allowed to come onto the track to meet, photograph and talk with their favorite drivers.

Gates open at 2 p.m., with practice starting at 4. Qualifying is at 6:15 with the first green flag falling at 8.
