DAVIDSON NAMED RETAILER OF THE YEAR

SIGMUND E. DAVIDSON of Roanoke has been presented the Retailer of the Year Award by the Virginia Retail Merchants Association. For 49 years, he has operated Joseph Davidson Inc., a menswear retailer trading in Western and central Virginia as Davidsons. During his tenure, the company expanded from one store to seven. He is now chairman of the board, and his son, LARRY DAVIDSON, has succeeded him in running the business.

Sigmund Davidson has been involved in the Roanoke community, serving as chairman of the American Red Cross blood drive, founding Big Brothers and Literacy Volunteers of Roanoke, working with United Way and Roanoke Jewish Appeal, helping develop and fund Center in the Square, and serving as a Roanoke College trustee and board member.

ACCOUNTING

DAVID B. LOWEN, president of Foti, Flynn, Lowen & Co. in Roanoke, has been named a vice president of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants for 1994-95. Elected to the board of the society were ALEC BOWMAN, partner with Anderson and Reed in Roanoke; RICHARD C. CRABBS, vice president of Scearce & Crabbs in Roanoke; RICHARD A. GARBEE, partner with Salyer, Garbee and Co. in Salem; WAYNE LEININGER, director of the department of accounting at Virginia Tech; KENNETH L. PRICKITT, partner with Young & Prickett in Roanoke; and JAMES B. TANEY, partner with Anderson and Reed and president of the Roanoke chapter of the society.

ARCHITECTS

and ENGINEERS

LUCINDA C. JENNINGS and TROY S. KINCER, both of Hayes, Seay Mattern & Mattern Inc. in Roanoke, have been named associates of the firm. Jennings, an interior designer and member of the American Society of Interior Designers, has been with HSMM since 1989. Kincer joined the architectural, engineering and planning firm as an environmental engineer in 1986 and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

COMPUTER SERVICES

DONALD E. KIERSON and DANIEL F. SCHULTHEIS have been named to the newly created senior management team at Broughton Systems Inc. They will be responsible for the daily operation of the computer consulting firm. Kierson is vice president of operations, and Schulthkeis is vice president of business development of the Richmond-based company, which has an office in Roanoke.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

O. BRYAN HAYES JR. has joined Wheat First Butcher Singer as vice president in the taxable fixed income institutional sales department. He will work in the firm's Lynchburg and Roanoke offices. Before joining Wheat First he was vice president and sales manager at Ferguson, Andrews & Associates Inc. in Roanoke.

LAW

PAUL M. BLACK has joined Wetherington, Melchionna, Terry, Day & Ammar law firm in Roanoke, formerly Wetherington & Melchionna. His practice will focus on commercial and business litigation, bankruptcy and creditors' rights. He is a former law clerk in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, past chairman of the Young Lawyers Committee of the Litigation Section of the Virginia State Bar, and on the board of governors of the Bankruptcy Section of the Virginia Bar Association.

NONPROFITS

The Roanoke Chapter of Habitat for Humanity has elected DAVID A. CAMPER of Central Fidelity Bank as president; JEAN A. DARBY, community volunteer, vice president; BROADDUS C. FITZPATRICK, First Union Bank of Virginia; secretary; and WILEY S. HUBBELL, retired from General Electric Co., treasurer. New directors are SANDY LIGHT, community volunteer; and GLORIA FAULKNER, Virginia Tech extension employee and Habitat homeowner. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that builds housing for low-income families.

The Jefferson Center in Roanoke, a nonprofit center for performing arts, education and social services housed in the former Jefferson High School, has named four new directors: HEIDI KRISCH, community volunteer; HEYWOOD FRALIN, attorney and vice chairman of Medical Facilities of America Inc.; WAYNE HARRIS, superintendent of the Roanoke school system; and JAMES ATKINSON, 1947 graduate of Jefferson High School, now retired from Graybar Electric Co.
