FESTIVAL-GOERS WILL HAVE A WEEK MORE OF CHAUTAUQUA

Wytheville's 1994 Chautauqua Festival will continue through next Sunday with continued free music, stage and other performances in the Elizabeth Brown Memorial Park and other activities elsewhere in the community.

The Shakespeare Express will perform ``Much Ado about Nothing'' at 4:30 p.m. today and a Gilbert & Sullivan performance is set for 8 p.m. A vesper service featuring the Maranatha Church of God Choir and Ecumenical Youth will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Among the performers Monday will be magician Eddie Armbrister, the Randy Lamb Dancers, Krystal Klear Band and a performance of ``Tom Sawyer'' by Rural Retreat Elementary School pupils;

Tuesday: singers Davina Porter and Megan Wolford, comedian Pete Geist, and the American Family Theatre performance of ``Aladdin and His Magic Lamp'';

Wednesday: the Alberti Flea Circus, trumpet and vocals with Jack White, James ``Coaldust'' Moore, Kentucky River Boys, Dr. Tom and the Sper Star Express, Ivan Fleming and Clinton Gregory;

Thursday: The Virginia Co. from Colonial Williamsburg, Barter Theatre's ``Jack and the Giant,'' Vicki Sprouse's clogging students, Ashley Hall and Carrie Anders Mahan, the Southerner Band and the Dennis Reasor Orchestra;

Friday: the slapstick comedy, ``Disorderly Conduct''; Dana Suthers' Southwest Virginia Cloggers, Irish balladeer Frank Emerson, and The Impressions;

Saturday: juggler David Bear Stuart, George Wythe High School Jazz Band directed by Jack Horner, Theatre IV's ``The Golden Goose,'' Mountain Magic Cloggers directed by Carole Ann Shockley, the Holzhackern Tyrolean Band, the Band from Virginia Beach, and The Marvelettes;

Sunday, June 26: singer Davina Porter, Lisa's School of Performing Arts, Classic Klickers Clogging Team directed by Vicki Sprouse, Chautauqua Festival Choir performing Cole Porter tunes, the Ban Caribe Latin beat, gospel music by Joel Newton and his band, and the traditional festival conclusion with the Wytheville Community College Concert Band directed by Jack O. White followed by fireworks.

There also will be pet shows, chess tournaments, arts displays, a petting zoo, antique show and sale, and more. Schedules and further information are available from the Chautauqua office on 4th Street next to the Wytheville Community Center.
