HERE'S MORE ON MORTGAGE POINTS

Q: I'm confused by and item in your column recently (June 6) concerning deducting points on a nortgage. The headline stated that both buyer and seller can deduct points, but the body of the article indicated that only the buyer can deduct points. That doesn't make sense to me.

Last month I sold my house and paid all the point for the buyer (not to mention new carpeting because of water damage two weeks before I moved). Am I entitled to the deduction for points I paid, or can the buyer claim it all? Say it isn't so!
