The March for Jesus began in London, England, in 1987 with 15,000 marchers. Last year, 1.6 million Christians marched all over the world. March for Jesus is not a protest march, and it does not represent denominational or political issues. Organizers plan a day in which Christians of different nations, church backgrounds and cultures come together to celebrate their common beliefs through public praise.
Local churches are urged to bring banners, and song books will be sold for $1. In Roanoke, the march will begin downtown at 10 a.m. on Day Avenue between Second and Third streets to practice the songs. At 11 a.m., the march will proceed down Third Street to Franklin Road then east to Jefferson Street and on to Elmwood Park.
