ROANOKER MISSES SENIOR SPOT

Gary Strickfaden, a Virginia Beach amateur, defeated Roanoke pro Billy King on the first hole of a playoff Monday to win the lone spot available at a U.S. Senior Open qualifier at The Crossings.

Strickfaden reached the green in two and two-putted on the par-4 first hole of the playoff. King hit a poor approach and three-putted for a bogey. Both had shot 1-over-par 73s.

The U.S. Senior Open will be held June 30-July 3 at Pinehurst Country Club's No. 2 Course in Pinehurst, N.C. - Associated Press
