Former Navy head basketball coach Pete Herrmann has been appointed restricted-earnings coach at Virginia, the school announced Monday.
Herrmann's hiring completes head coach Jeff Jones' staff. After full-time assistants Brian Ellerbe and Dennis Wolff left in April for head coaching positions, Jones promoted restricted-earnings coach Tom Perrin and hired Anthony Solomon.
Herrmann spent the past two seasons as a Kansas State assistant. He was 63-110 in six years at Navy. His David Robinson-led Navy team finished 26-6 in 1986-87, winning the Colonial Athletic Association's regular-season and tournament championships, and lost to Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Herrmann joined Kansas State after 12 years at Navy. Kansas State advanced to the championship of the National Invitation Tournament last season.
"The fact that Pete has been a head coach was attractive to me," Jones said in a statement. "While I believe teaching is Pete's strength, he'll be involved in all aspects of our basketball program."
Herrman praised UVa as having "one of the best programs in the nation. It's a thrill for me to join the staff at Virginia."
