ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The consumer price index stood at 147.5 points last month compared with 144.2 a year earlier, an increase of 2 percent. It meant that goods and services costing $144.20 last year carried a price tag of $147.50 last month.

For the month since April, the index rose only marginally from 147.4.

Also added this week to the regional economic indicators, Appalachian Power Co. sales rose from 245 million kilowatt hours in May 1993 to 258 million kilowatt hours last month, an increase of 5.4 percent in a month little affected by the weather. The power company sold 265 million kilowatt hours in April, a colder month.
