VINTON LAW GIVES MORE BINGO PROCEEDS TO CHARITIES

Vinton enacted an ordinance Tuesday aimed at putting more money from bingo proceeds into the pickets of charitable groups and less into the pockets of bingo operators.

By state law, bingo and raffle proceeds are supposed to go only for religious, charitable, educational and commmunity purposes. But Vinton Town Attorney Buck Heartwell said the statewide trend has been that almost all gross receipts from licensed games have been going to facility oweners, or for supply purchases and other administrative expenses.
