Fretwell graduated from Bridgewater College, where she played basketball, field hockey and lacrosse. She was a dean's list student and All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Academic selection for 1991-92.
After graduation, Fretwell served as assistant girls' basketball and softball coach at Stuarts Draft High School. Fretwell announced she will meet with players and their parents in the school auditorium at 7 p.m. July 6.

Shari Minter, the standout Sportsman driver from Charlotte, N.C., is expected to compete in the Street Stock portion of the Pizza Hut 300 on Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway. There will be racing in five other divisions, including a 100-lap Late Model Stock event with a purse of $1,500.
Gates open at noon, and racing begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, with children 10 and younger admitted free.
Trey Clower of Roanoke won the age 12-13 division of the Kiln Creek Junior Golf Classic played Wednesday and Thursday at Kiln Creek Country Club in Newport News. Clower finished with a two-round total of 176.
Josh Salmon hit a three-run homer to power Post 3 South to a 6-3 victory over Post 3 West in a battle of Roanoke American Legion baseball teams.
Robey Caldwell struck out 13 and did not walk a batter as South won its opener. Brian Crosswhite hit a solo homer for West.
