VIETNAM WREATH-LAYING IN RADFORD JULY 4

A local veterans' group is encouraging the families of the 33 New River Valley men named on a Vietnam War memorial stone to attend a wreath laying ceremony at Bisset Park on the Fourth of July.

Sponsored by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 138, the wreath laying will occur at 7 p.m. in Radford's riverside park.

The monument, dedicated July 4, 1985, is located beside the parking area at the intersection of Berkley Williams and Charlie Coles drives.

The names include men from all parts of the New River Valley who died in the Vietnam War.

"We don't have any records of the families," VVA member Tom Parsons said. "We'd appreciate their presence at the service."

The names, by locality, include, from Floyd County: Wilford H. Alderman, James M. Cox, Larry C. Harris and Harold W. King.

From Giles County: Charles E. Bonds, Carl M. Mabe, Paul R. Martin, Ronald D. Sparks and Bradley H. Tate.

From Montgomery County: Henry T. Cox, Leon N. East, George A. Gerald, Charlie M. Gilmer, Paul L. Huff, Jimmy H. McClung, Charles D. McGinnes, Ward W. Mills Jr., Otis B. Sink, Arthur B. Smith, Frederick F. VanDeusen, Robert M. Wade and Leon D. Willard.

From Pulaski County: Herbert H. Crowder, James T. Gravley, Howard M. Lee, William R. Martin, Thomas L. Wade, Embree B. White III and Phillip Howell.

From Radford: Carl R. Gibson, Raymond M. Kilby, Phillip M. Long and Marion G. Runion.
