FIRST UNION BRANCH OPENING NEAR MARKET PLACE|

The new First Union National Bank of Virginia branch office next to the Market Place shopping center opens for business Monday at 9 a.m. The $1 million full-service office, at 2325 N. Franklin St., replaces First Union branches on Franklin Street in Christiansburg and South Main Street in Blacksburg, which have been closed. Accounts at those branches will be moved to the new office.

The Blacksburg building will be sold. Several employees from the closed branches will staff the new office.

The new branch will have five teller stations and five customer service desks for customers to open accounts, apply for loans and conduct other business.

Outside, the new branch will have five drive-through lanes, one of them served by a 24-hour automatic teller machine. The office also will provide a drive-up night deposit box for after-hours business deposits.

Teller windows will be open for business weekdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The drive-through lanes will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

A grand opening celebration for the new branch has been set for July 8.

The telephone number is 381-0545.
