Teri Temples, spokeswoman for Richmond-based Signet Banking Corp., said Friday that the seven people, who work in mortgage processing, can transfer to Richmond with their jobs. But she said the company expects few, if any, to accept the offer to move. The reorganization is effective July 31.
The company is combining processing centers that are located in 17 communities in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. They will be consolidated at two sites at Richmond and Columbia, Md.
The other seven people, who work in mortgage sales and origination, will remain at the Roanoke office at 4415 Electric Road, across from Tanglewood Mall.
Temples said the consolidation will improve the flow of work, decreasing the time it takes to process and approve mortgages . All mortgage customers also will be able to call a single center, she said.
Frank Chrzanowski, manager of the Roanoke office, said he expected faster service from centralized processing centers.
As part of the reorganization, Signet will move the headquarters of its mortgage company from Baltimore to Richmond. That change is scheduled to take place Sept. 1.
The related home equity line service center will shift along with the headquarters. The two operations have combined employment of 86 people.
