AKERS, Curgless G., 79, of Christiansburg, passed away Sunday, June 26, 1994, at a local hospital. He is survived by his wife, Roxie M. Akers; five sons and daughters-in-law, James C. and Sarah Akers, Riner, Lewis E. and Bea Akers, Shawsville, Harold G. and Bonnie Akers, Riner, Samuel H. and Pearl Akers, Christiansburg and Donald W. and Kathy Akers, Dobson, N.C.; one sister, Stella Roop, Floyd; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a brother, Roy Akers, Floyd; and a sister, Isabelle Weddle , Radford. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sunset Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. L.V. DeHart. The family will not receive friends at the funeral home, but the public may call there Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Arrangements by Richardson-Horne Funeral Home.

ALMOND, Geneva Jernell, 71, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, June 27, 1994, at her home. She was the widow of Bobby Edward Almond. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Betty L. and Conley M. Baker, Salem; three grandchildren, Kevin Baker, Roanoke, Chris Baker and Clay Baker, both of Salem; two brothers, Carl Green and William Green, both of Roanoke; four sisters, Louise Turner, Myrtle Wilkes, and Ruth Lamb, all of California; Doris Connley, Roanoke; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's North Chapel by the Rev. J. Landon Maddex. The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel.

AUSTIN, Gladys Daughtrey, 90, of Roanoke, died Sunday, June 26, 1994. She was the widow of Lynwood H. (Toots) Austin. Mrs. Austin joined the Methodist Church at the age of 12. For the last 25 years she has been a member of Mays Memorial Methodist Church. She is survived by one son and special daughter-in-law, James L. (Bud) and Shirley B. Austin, who was her constant caregiver, of Roanoke; one daughter, Frances A. Ferguson, Goodview; three stepgranddaughters, Kathy Dunbar, Debbie Sanson, Linda Nester; stepgreat-granddaughter and caregiver, Angela Dunbar, all of Roanoke; one grandson and wife, Michael E. and Linda Y. Ferguson of Vinton; one granddaughter and husband, Patti F. and Steven Stockman, Ho uston, Texas; also great-granddaughter, Kelly Ferguson; great-grandson and wife, Kevin and Crystal Ferguson; and one great-great-granddaughter, Goodview; one brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Mattie Daughtrey, St. Petersburg, Fla. AYERS, Martha Mae Wallace, 88, of Elliston, died Sunday, June 26, 1994. She is survived by one daughter, Betty M. Ayers Hall, Elliston, Va.; one son, James Wallace Hickman, Fancy Gap, Va; three brothers, Lewis Wallace, Lexington, Va., Lester Wallace, Oxon Hill, Md., John Wallace, Buchanan, Va. BLEVINS, Ruth Parker, 36, of B-101 Maple Garden Apartments, Dublin, died late Monday night in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Smythe County on July 28, 1957. She was a member of the Back Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors are her husband, Randy Blevins, Dublin; one daughter, Kelli Blevins, Dublin; parents, Olen Dale Parker and Mildred Kegley Parker, Radford; one brother, Jeffrey D. Parker, Silver Springs, Md.; two grandmothers, Mrs. Ruth Kegley, Marion and Mrs. Eva Parker, Marion. Funeral services will be held Thursday 4 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. James Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park, Fairlawn. BROWN, Charles Raymond Jr, 69, of Salem, died Monday, June 27, 1994. Mr. Brown was a lifelong area resident. He was retired from Allstate Insurance Company after thirty years of service. He was an active member of Salem Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a decorated Army-Air Force WWII veteran serving in the Pacific Theather. Survivors include his wife, Clarice Davison Brown; son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. Brown III and Donna W. Brown of Chesterfield, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Susan B. and Robert W. Hollins of Roanoke; grandchildren, Charles Cameron Hollins, John Andrew Hollins, Alyssa Nicole Brown, Katherine Elizabeth Brown, Tayler Scott Brow n, and Collin Waverly Brown. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 1994, at Sherwood Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Salem Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. COFFEY, Mamie Etta Hayslett, 83, of Natural Bridge, was graciously taken by the Lord to her Eternal Home on June 26, 1994, after a long illness. During this time, she received an enormous amount of love from her friends and family. Despite the illness, her last days were happy. The family wishes to thank all who helped in so many ways. She was the eldest daughter of William McDonald Hayslett and Emma Kirby Hayslett. She was born in Rockbridge County on January 27, 1911. She is survived by a former husband, Alfred Coffey of Glasgow, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Betty) Funkhouser and Mrs. Freddie (Shirley) Humphries, both of Glasgow; one son, Berman (Cotton) Coffey, Lyndhurt, Va.; nine grandchildren and their spouses; 8 great grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Tom (Elizabeth) Dudley of Buena Vista, Miss Josephine Hayslett of Lexington; three brothers, Jim Hayslett of Salem, Robert Hayslett and John E. Hayslett, both of Lexington; two daughters-in law, Bonnie Coffey Burjoice of Staunton and Ola Mae Coffey of Staunton. She was preceeded in death by three children, Mary Elizabeth, Kenneth (Pee Wee), and William (Bill) Coffey; two sisters and three brothers. She retired from Burlington Industries with 29 years of service. She was a faithful member of Natural Bridge Baptist Church, helped establish the local chapter of Glasgow-Rockbridge A.A.R.P. #2071, which she was a charter member. She was also a charter member of the Rockbridge Arthritis Support Group. She was a lady of honor and courage and loved by all who knew her. Give praise and glory to God for her life at a service in her honor on Wednesday, June 29, 1994, at 2 p.m. at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Dr. D.B. Martin and the Rev. Tim Madison sharing the precious truth of God's word. The family sincerely requests that those who prefer may make donations to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O. CREASY, Beatrice S. (Curly), 84, of Roanoke, died Monday, June 27, 1994, in a local nursing home. She was a charter member of Airlee Court Baptist Church and a member of the Oakland Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Creasy. Surviving are sisters and brother-in-law, Voilette S. Carter, Roanoke, Ina S. Payne, and Sara S. and Jeff Allen, all of Cocoa, Florida; a number of nieces and nephews. FERGUSON, Mary DeLong, 89, of Vinton, died Sunday, June 26, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Ferguson. She was a member of the Blue Ridge Baptist Church in Vinton. Surviving are one daughter, Lucille Ferguson Hale and son-in-law, Edd O. HACKLEY, Annie Beatrice, 100, of 924 Staunton Ave., N.W., Roanoke, died Friday, June 24, 1994. She was a member of High Street Baptist Church and a long time teacher at Gainsboro Elementry and Addison High Schools. She later spent several years teaching in the public schools in Washington, D.C. Among her survivors is a devoted niece, Mrs. Gwendolyn J. Lawrence; seven other nieces, nine nephews; sister-in-law Mrs. Nora Hackley of Plainfield, N.J.; and other relatives. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Dr. Noel C. JOHNSON, Ann Rowse, 43, of Route 2, Moneta, passed away Monday, June 27, 1994 in the Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 18, 1951 in Franklin County, a daughter of Lucille Meador Ellis of Bedford and the late John Will Ellis. She was an employee of Winn-Dixie and was a member of the Flat Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Richard Johnson; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Melanie Rowse, Lynchburg; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Robin and Dwayne Seavers, Pamela and Russell Smith, all of Bedford; two brothers and sister-in-law, Mark and Debbie Ellis, Dale Ellis, all of Bedford; a granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Rowse, Lynchburg. She was born January 2, 1922 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Albert Manson Witt and Reba Williamson Witt. Her husband was the late George Wesley Loyd Sr. She was a retired employee of the Rubatex Corp. and was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Faye L. and James B. Craghead, Moneta; a son and daughter-in-law, George W. and Cynthia S. Loyd, Hardy; two sisters, Rachel W. Fielder, Jeanean W. Zimmerman, both of Bedford; three brothers, Albert M. Witt Jr., Tampa, Fla., Billy L. Witt, Wayne D. MCGEORGE, Ralph Winston, 78, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, June 27, 1994, in Raleigh Court Health Care Center. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church, a nat ive of Bedford County (son of the late Lawrence T. and Frankie Meador McGeorge), an Army veteran of World War Two (839th Air Force in England), and a retired mechanic from Fulton Trucks. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Bertha Brooks McGeorge; a brother, Gilbert McGeorge, Roanoke; two sisters, Frances Marion, Galax, Louise McGlothlin, Vinton; a sister-in-law, Avah Hutchens, Colfax, N.C.; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Chris Rakestraw officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Burial Park. He was a member of the Colonial Baptist Church, the Botetourt County Republican Committee, the Botetourt County Kiwanis Club, and he also served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. SOUTHERS, William James Sr., 96, Waynesboro, formerly of Buena Vista, died Monday, June 27, 1994, in Waynesboro Community Hospital. Born in Rockbridge County on February 2, 1898, he was son of the late Robert Southers and Sophornia Clark Southers. He was the owner and operator of Southers Florist and Green House in Buena Vista and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Young Southers. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Cash Clark Southers, Waynesboro; a daughter, Mrs. B.K. (Dorothy) Zimbro, Staunton; two sons, William James Southers Jr., Staunton, Roy C. Southers, Buena Vista; two sisters, Junie Hostetter, Lexington and Mary Elkins, Burgin, Ky; three granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren. THOMPSON, Margaret Lou, 82, of Salem, died, Saturday, June 25, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Thompson who was retired from Leas McVitty. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie and Mary Thompson of Salem; a daughter, Gerri Poe of Winter Haven, Fla.; five grandchildren, Woodson Poe of Orlando, Fla., Jim Poe of Miami, Fla., Don Poe and Debra Harsh, both of Winter Haven, Fla., Mark Thompson of Salem; also four great-grandchildren, Skye and Kristin Poe, Callie Thompson and Gina Heatherly; a brother, A.M. Reynolds of Daleville; a special sister-in-law, Alice Reynolds of Salem. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday June 28, 1994 at 11 a.m. in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Keith Johnston officiating. The family will receive friend s at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home in Salem on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fort Lewis Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 446, Salem, Va. 24153. The family would like to thank Drs. Gene Godwin and Donald Williams for their many years of tender loving care expressed toward their family.

TRINKLE, Dorothy K,81, of Roanoke died Monday, June 27, 1994. Surviving are her husband, E. Lee Trinkle Jr., Roanoke, daughter, Sue Cosby Schott, Roanoke, son, E. TURNER, James Dudley, (``Curly""), 56, of Roanoke passed away Saturday, June 25, 1994. He was a former employee of the City of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Turner, and his son Andre R. Turner. Survivors include his wife, Joyce E. Turner, two stepdaughters, LaShawnia McCoy and LaKeisha Johnson all of Roanoke; five daughters, Carnita (Tyrone) Brown, Sabrina Bass, Lolita Turner all of New Jersey, Ramona Turner, Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Debbie Floyd, Rochester, N.Y.; one brother, Danny K. Turner; two sisters, Ruby Giles, New Haven, Conn., Roxanne Alexander, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild; a special aunt, Harriett Sharpe, Bridgeport, Conn.; mother-in-law, Lydia A. Reynolds; father-in-law, Paul McCoy, both of Roanoke; a special friend, Shirley Jones, Ohio; a special little friend, Master D. J. Artis of Roanoke; a long time friend, Johnny Basham, Roanoke; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday 11 a.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church. Dr. J.
