North calls for Congress to butt out

HAYMARKET - Republican Senate candidate Oliver North on Monday joined Virginia's congressional delegation in telling Congress to stay out of the dispute over the proposed Disney theme park.

``We don't need a bunch of Washington insider types to tell us what's good for us,'' North said at a news conference near the park site. He has built his campaign on an anti-Washington theme.

A Senate subcommittee held hearings June 21 on whether the proposed theme park and surrounding development in Prince William County would harm historical landmarks in the area.

MTV auditions a flop in Hampton Roads

VIRGINIA BEACH - The crew from the Music Television channel was ready for a big crowd at lip-synching auditions for its ``Lip Service'' show - but the huge room at the YMCA was empty as MTV host John Ales and MTV scouts Rich Korson and Todd Warner paced around.

Although it was heavily promoted, no one showed up at the Saturday event.

3 years later, murder victim to be buried

IVOR - Police remain baffled three years after finding the body of a nameless homicide victim.

Two farmers found the still-warm body April 19, 1991, in a wooded area. The man was 6 feet tall, weighed 247 pounds and had spiked red hair. He had been shot four times.

The body has been at the state morgue in Richmond for three years.

The state medical examiner's office last week shipped the body to the medical examiner's office in Norfolk, with instructions to send it back to Southampton County for burial.
