Master illusionist

RADFORD - Master illusionist Eddie Armbrister presents his "World of Wonder" Friday, July 8, 1 p.m., at the Radford Public Library, 30 First St.

The show is one of several summer reading program events open to children three and older. The show should last about 45 minutes.

Holiday schedules

CHRISTIANSBURG - Town and county offices have announced closings and trash pickup schedule changes for the Fourth of July holiday:

Christiansburg town offices, the Recreation Center and the Senior Center will be closed Monday, July 4. Trash normally collected Mondays will be picked up with Tuesday's. Residents should place containers at the edge of the street by 8 a.m. Tuesday. Call 382-6128.

Pulaski County offices will be closed and trash pickup will be suspended Monday, July 4. Trash trucks will operate on a one-day delayed schedule. Trash normally picked up Thursday will be collected with Friday's. Call 980-7708

Blacksburg town offices, Community Center and gymnasium and Blacksburg Transit offices will be closed Monday, July 4. Blacksburg Transit buses will not run Monday. The aquatic facility, outdoor swimming pool, golf course and trash collections will operate on their regular schedules. Call 961-1130

Radford will suspend trash collections on Monday, July 4. Monday's trash will be collected with Tuesday's. Residents and businesses should place trash containers out by 7 a.m. Tuesday. Call 731-3607.

DiscoveryWorks art

RADFORD - DiscoveryWorks is seeking two- and three-dimensional artworks by youngsters four to 14 for an exhibition during Riverfest, which is set for July 23, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All media except photography will be accepted at DiscoveryWorks, 1115 Norwood St., from July 5-11, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Two-dimensional works should be mounted on black paper and accompanied by two three-by-five cards listing the name, address, daytime telephone, age and school of the entrant.

Three works will be picked for the permanent collection at the College of Education at Radford University.

The winner will get a free DiscoveryWorks family membership, a $30 gift certificate for art supplies and have a DiscoveryWorks scholarship fund named for them.
