\ LORA L. SCHWEHR, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Schwehr of Salem, recently won first prize in the Maryland/Washington, D.C./Virginia Mathematical Association of America student paper competition.
Schwehr's paper, "Delay Integral Equations and Population Dynamics," was the result of an independent study course at Roanoke College directed by Roland Minton.
Schwehr is a mathematics and physics major at the college.
\ TONYA MICHELLE BROWN of Roanoke graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Greensboro College in North Carolina.
She also received the United African-American Society Award at the school's May Cap and Gown Ceremony.
\ JOHN ECHOLS and DOUGLAS F. TURNER received degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
Echols received the master of divinity in Christian education degree; and Turner received the master of divinity degree.
\ BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE recently awarded degrees to several Roanoke Valley students.

\ TAYLOR L. JONES, son of Liz and Larry Jones of Roanoke, has been accepted to study visual arts in the summer session at North Carolina School of the Arts.
Jones is a sophomore at The Governor's School and Patrick Henry High School.
\ WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY in Winston-Salem, N.C., has awarded bachelor of arts degrees to the following Roanoke students: Marjorie Merriman Clifton, Robert Holmes Gayle and Lawrence Davis Jackson.
Melissa Ann Sigler and Katherine Wendy Ventura, both of Roanoke, received bachelor of science degrees.

\ ROBERT L. MARTINET of Roanoke has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the college of Engineering at Ohio State University in Columbus. Martinet is vice president of operations for FiberCom Inc.
\ FREED-HARDEMAN UNIVERSITY has named several Roanoke Valley students to its honor lists.
Lisa Bennett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Freeland of Roanoke and a business administration major, was named to the dean's list.
Stephanie McLaughlin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McLaughlin of Roanoke and an arts and humanities major; and Shane Warner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Warner of Vinton and a biology major, were both named to the president's list.
\ MATTHEW CAMPBELL, son of Blair and Kate Campbell and a student at Roanoke Catholic School, has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. The program was designed to offer recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines.
\ MICHAEL JOSEPH KOLNOK III , son of Michael J. Kolnok of Roanoke, received a $1,000 R. Robert Dale Scholarship from Moose International Inc. He will attend Randolph-Macon College in Ashland.
Kolnok is a 1994 graduate of Roanoke Catholic School.
\ REGINALD J. REYNOLDS and ANDRE G. SAUNDERS, both recent graduates of William Fleming High School, are winners of 1994 First Baptist Church/Alexander White scholarship awards.
The $500 scholarships, established by White's family in 1990 to commemorate his dedication to young people, are awarded to college-bound members of First Baptist Church, 310 N. Jefferson St.
White, who has no biological children, has been like a father to three generations of children.
Reynolds, the son of John and Shirley Reynolds, will attend Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Saunders, who plans to attend Ferrum College, is the son of Robert and Elizabeth Saunders, both members of the deacon board at the church.
\ SONYA M. SMITH, daughter of Donald and Alice Smith of Fincastle, recently graduated from Bauder College in Atlanta, Ga. She received an associate of arts degree in interior design.
