Placing second were: Michele Moumou, commercial baking; Andrew "Marty" Roberson, culinary arts; and Douglass Johns, sheet metal.
\ IRA RUSSELL "RUSTY" DEYERLE, son of Ira and Judy Deyerle of Salem, has been selected to become a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the national honor society for business students. This is the highest academic honor a student can achieve at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.
\ JENNIFER DONIKOWSKI and CINDY CREWS have been chosen as Quest '94 assistants at Radford University.
Quest '94 is a summer orientation program for new and transfer students.
The two students will coordinate programs and tours and serve as personal guides and advisers.
Donikowski, a sophomore and daughter of Frederick Donikowski of 1664 Millbridge Court, Salem, is a fashion design major. Crews, a graduate student and daughter of Robert E. Crews of 5244 Setter Drive, is majoring in elementary education, with an emphasis on learning disabilities.
\ THE WOODMEN OF THE WORLD LIFE INSURANCE SOCIETY LODGES 362 and 66 recently recognized several Roanoke Valley students who participated in the lodges' American History program.
Horace B. Thomas Jr. of Patrick Henry High School won the outstanding award. Other students receiving awards were: Mac Craft, Craig County High School; Elaine Ranguillo, Roanoke Catholic High School; Alice Arnold, William Fleming High School; Jasmine Jilla, Northside High School; Ernest V. Clark III, Roanoke Valley Christian School; and Gena Nasca, Cave Spring High School.
\ ANDREW ZURAW, son of John and Nancy Zuraw of Roanoke, has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. He is an eighth-grade student at Roanoke Catholic School.

Scholarship recipients from Patrick Henry are: Erica Suzann Campbell, daughter of Kimberly Brancati; Heather Michelle Cormany, daughter of Roger Cormany; Kristy Faye Ratcliffe, daughter of Philip and Carol Carp; and Yen T. Lieu.
Also, Anne Margaret Spencer from Cave Spring, daughter of Gregory and Margaret Spencer; and Liana Michele Hamm from William Fleming, daughter of Ramona Hamm.
Campbell and Spencer will attend the University of Virginia; Lieu will attend Hollins College; Cormany and Hamm will attend Roanoke College; and Ratcliffe will attend Virginia Tech.
