MELISSA SCHAUER KILLEN, daughter of Dana and Mary Ann Schauer of Roanoke, recently graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville.

\ ANDREA DANNER of Roanoke recently received a Virginia Mountain Craft Guild Scholarship.

The guild's scholarship fund assists high school and college students who plan a career in arts and crafts fields. Four scholarships are awarded each year.

Danner is a rising senior at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

\ JULIA SOBOLL-FRY of Roanoke recently earned a bachelor of arts from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore.

\ EAST TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY has announced that three area students have been named to its dean's list for the spring semester.

They are: Lynette E. Henry and Phillip E. Justice, both of Roanoke; and Heather N. Croft of Daleville.

Students named to the list must earn at least a 3.7 grade-point average.

\ JACQUES D. SCOTT, son of Sandra N. Scott, graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor of science degree in administration of criminal justice. He is a member of Lambda Alpha Epsilon National Criminal Justice Fraternity and worked in security for the university.

He is a 1987 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF TEACHERS OF FRENCH recently named several Roanoke Valley students who competed and placed in the The National French Contest.

The Roanoke area winners in Level 1 were: Shari Perkins of North Cross, first place; Tracy Reed and Marie Keith, both of Lord Botetourt, second place tie; Lindsey Hoagland of North Cross, third place; Amanda Jones, Meagan Crowder, and Justin Hurst, all of Lord Botetourt, received fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Level 2 winners were: Sylvana Sinha of North Cross, first place; Andrea Henderson of Lord Botetourt, second place; Karen Jargowsky and Sara Dudley, both of Lord Botetourt, third place tie; Mary Beth Ladenheim of Lord Botetourt, fourth place; Stephanie Yost and Kari McGlamary, both of Lord Botetourt, fifth place tie; and Leigh Ann Jones of William Fleming, sixth place.

Level 3 winners were: Jason Munley of Salem High School, first place; Evan Richardson of Lord Botetourt, second place; Claire Brewer of Fleming and Alyson Montgomery of Lord Botetourt, third place tie; Emily Morrison and Cindy Harris, both of Lord Botetourt, fourth place tie; Christy Fons and April Mattox, both of Lord Botetourt, placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

Kristina Patterson of Lord Botetourt placed first in the Roanoke area and third in the state on Level 4.

On Level 5, Sandra Williams of Cave Spring was first in the area, state and region; and Khaled Alami of Cave Spring was second in the area, state and region and fifth in the nation.

\ THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES recently announced their spring semester president's and dean's list students. The president's list requires a 3.5 or above grade point average, and the dean's list requires a 3.0 to 3.49 grade point average.

\ THE E. PRICE RIPLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP was recently awarded to three Roanoke Valley high school seniors.

Kristy F. Ratcliffe, daughter of Philip and Carol Carp; and Jonathan W. Hunley, son of Douglas and Martha Hunley, will both graduate from Patrick Henry High School.

Jeremy J. Spillen, son of Margaret A. Spillen, will graduate from Salem High School.

The scholarships are based on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and financial need.

\ SARAH LOVELACE DILLON of Roanoke recently graduated magna cum laude in education for the deaf and hard of hearing from Barton College in Wilson, N.C.

She also was on the dean's list.

\ BEN F. WADE, formerly of Roanoke, has been named the 1994 Distinguished Alumnus of Bridgewater College. He is vice president and dean of the College at Florida Southern College. Wade has three master's degrees and a doctorate and was Bridgewater's first provost. He is son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Wade of Roanoke.

\ VIRGINIA WESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE has announced the names of the students named to the president's honors list and the dean's list for the spring semester.

Laughon also was awarded the distinction of Phi Beta Kappa, and will attend the University of Virginia's Medical School in the fall.

\ KIMBERLEY SUE ROBERTS and LINDSEY CAROL TEAR graduated from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Roberts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alwin R. Roberts of Roanoke, received a bachelor of science degree in consumer services.

Tear, daughter of Carol K. Tear of Roanoke, was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in French. She graduated magna cum laude.

\ NEW RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE, in Dublin has announced the names of its spring graduates from the Roanoke area. They are: Nora Nunnery Smith of Salem; and Carl D. Cress III, Michael W. Davis and Frank J. Wolfe Jr., all of Roanoke.

\ JENNIFER ANN BRAMMER of New Castle received a bachelor of science degree in education from Indiana University in Bloomington.

\ CRISTINA ELIZABETH DAVIS, daughter of Buddy and Sylvia Davis, graduated from Duke University with a bachelor of science degree in biology and mathematics.

\ WILLIAM FLEMING HIGH SCHOOL announced the following winners in the District VII Vocational Industrial Clubs of America Skills and Leadership Conference Competition. Placing first were: Kevin Clark, aeronautics; Ron Gray, culinary arts; and Andre Atkins, sheet metal. Placing second were: Michele Moumou, commercial baking; Andrew "Marty" Roberson, culinary arts; and Douglass Johns, sheet metal.

\ SARAH WRAY of Roanoke was the winner of the DAR essay contest at James Madison Middle School. The essay topic this year was "Coming to America In Colonial Days." This contest was sponsored by the Margaret Lynn Lewis Chapter of DAR.

\ THE VIRGINIA BAR ASSOCIATION has recognized several students who wrote essays on the judicial system during the association's Community Law Week.
