ANDREA MULLINS, an agent with the Principal Financial Group received the Roanoke's Office Marketer of the Year Award and was named "Rookie of the Year" for the North Carolina/Southwest Virginia Agency in January.

The Rookie award is given to agents with less than two years experience who meet certain qualifications and production goals.

Mulliins also qualified for the Premier Club in San Fransisco, Calif., where she received honors as fifth place "Rookie of the Year" company wide.

Mullins specializes in employee benefit planning.

\ RAYMOND P. SMITH, fleet maintenance manager for Roanoke Restaurant Service Inc. in Salem, has been named a certified private fleet manager by the National Private Truck Council.

The designation honors a fleet manager's education and professional experience.

Smith is one of 100 people who have earned this title.

\ JEFFREY D. WILSON of Equitable Life Insurance Company in Roanoke was recently honored for his excellent customer service and outstanding sales production.

\ CLIFFORD A. WRIGHT of Roanoke recently retired after 25 years with the Department of Transportation service. Wright jointed VDOT in 1968, and at his retirement was a senior materials technician.

\ GEORGE R. DISHNER of Roanoke has won a Nationwide Insurance Silver Eagle Award and the company's work quality award for outstanding claims service during the past year.

\ H. WATTS STEGER III, president of the Bank of Buchanan, has been elected first vice president of the Virginia Association of Community Banks.

\ ROSS MARTIN, a laboratory technician at Sybron Chemicals Inc., has been promoted to second shift lab supervisor for the production laboratory.

He will perform and assist in supervising a variety of microbiologically related quality assurance functions.

\ J.C. TAYLOR a sales associate with Century 21 Young Realty Co., recently received the Sales Achievement Gold Award for first quarter sales excellence by the company's Mid-Atlantic States Blue Ridge District.

This is the highest quarterly award in the district and represents only the top 2 percent of sales associates in the district and top 1 percent in the Greater Virginia Region.

\ ROBERT A. FULGARO, district manager in Roanoke for The Franklin Life Insurance Co., has qualified for the company's Circle of Champions Club.

The club is a national honor organization of the company's most successful managers. Fulgaro's qualification was based upon outstanding recruiting activity during the month of March.

\ DAVID H. JENNINGS has been named the Public Works Employee of the Year for 1993-94.

Jennings was a crew leader responsible for cleaning the Central Business District in downtown Roanoke. He was recognized with a resolution and a $100 cash award.

Jennings began his career for the city of Roanoke in 1978 as a laborer cutting grass and weeds, and has not taken a sick day since 1989, according to Mayor Bowers at the City Council meeting.

\ DONNA DILLEY of Salem has been appointed director of the Roanoke County chapter of the National League of Junior Cotillions program of Charlotte, N.C.

The Junior Cotillion program features etiquette and social dance training for middle and Junior High students.

Dilley, a graduate of Lynchburg College, is a member of the Junior League of Roanoke Valley, and an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society.

\ O. WADE LANIER of Roanoke recently participated in The Chubb Life Companies' annual White Mountain Club conference in Maui, Hawaii.

The meeting honored the top 20 percent of the company's independent agents from thoughout the United States.

\ WILLIAM H. SPENCER III, general agent in Roanoke for The Franklin Life Insurance Co., has qualified for the company's Circle of Champions Club.

\ VERLA L. WHITLOCK of Roanoke has retired after 34 years of employment as secretary-treasurer with Motley & Associates, formerly Smithey & Boynton Architects andAssociates.

The mayor's office for the city of Roanoke honored Whitlock by proclaiming "Vera L. Whitlock Day" on May 31.

\ JOHN C. BRAKE has qualified for Kansas City Life Insurance Company's 1994 Top Hatters Conference. Brake, a general agent for the company, was one of 31 qualifiers from among more than 1,600 agents.

\ JERRY O. MOFIELD, a personal financial planner with the Roanoke office of IDS Financial Services Inc., has been named to the IDS Silver Team.

\ BETHANY R. WASKY of Salem has been named an independent sales director for Mary Kay Cosmetics Inc.

The appointment is based on Wasky's sales and recruiting accomplishments.

\ JUNE HODGE of Roanoke has been nominated for a national Reminisce Club award for provided outstanding service to senior citizens.

Winners of the award receive a free trip to Hawaii.

Hodge, who was nominated by Harold Gibson fo Roanoke, is an employee of First Union National Bank of Virginia.

\ PITZER TRANSFER AND STORAGE CORP. has announced that six of its commercial drivers from the Roanoke area have received safe driver awards for a one-year qualifying period. Those drivers are, Elliot Finney, Houston Goad, Daniel Jenkins, and Fred McCoy, all of Roanoke; and Douglas Flowers and Teddy Sloan, both from Vinton.

\ DR. KEITH C. EDMUNDS of Roanoke has completed continuing medical education requirements to retain active membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the national association of family doctors.

\ WALLY AND SUSAN YOUNG of Salem have been recognized for distinguished sales and service by Southland Log Homes at its National Dealer Meeting in February. The Youngs received this honor by having an outstanding sales record for 1993.

\ MICHAEL W. KURTZ of Roanoke has received Liberty Mutual Insurance Company's Auto Plus award for 1993 in recognition of his outstanding achievement in sales of auto policies.

\ JAMES N. HINSON JR., president and chief executive officer of First Virginia Bank-Southwest, recently presented $1,200 to the Roanoke Chapter of the Easter Seal Society. The contribution was made on behalf of the children who participated in the eight, valleywide Easter egg hunts held on March 19.

\ ANDREA G. MULLINS of the Southwest Virginia Agency of the Principal Financial Group, has qualified for the company's Premier Club. Premier Club honors those agents who are leaders in providing life and health insurance, financial need analysis, pension and profit sharing services and other financial services.

\ LLOYD CHRISTIAN has been named North American Van Lines Relocations Services Division Vanguard Trip winner. He also was named to the Royalguard Program, a group of van operators who have been in service with North American Van Lines for a minimum of 10 years and participated in the Vanguard Program for that length of time.

\ LEE F. BROOKS, a personal financial planner with IDS Financial Services, Inc., has achieved the professional designation Certified Financial Planner.

\ MARY B. BLANTON has been promoted to cash management sales officer for First Union National Bank of Virginia. She joined Dominion Bank in 1990; the bank merged with First Union in 1993.

\ SHIRLEY ROBERTSON, daughter of Paul K. Robertson and Elizabeth Robertson of Salem, has received the National Registered Apartment Manager of the Year award from The National Association of Homebuilder's National Council of the Multifamily Housing Industry.

Robertson, who lives in Bowie, Md., is Registered Apartment Manager school dean, past member of the RAM Board of Governors, and author of numerous articles for publications.

\ JAMES A. WARDLE of Salem has attained the Fraternal Insurance Counsellor designation. He is a Modern Woodmen of America representative for the Roanoke area. The FIC title is an educational designation that can be earned by career life underwriters associated with fraternal insurance societies.

\ DR. J. JOE YAZEL, of Roanoke, has been elected a fellow in the American Psychiatric Association. Yazel joined the staff at the Salem Veteran Affairs Medical Center in 1992 to develop and direct the University of Virginia Roanoke-Salem Psychiatric Medicine Residency Program.

\ ZELDA CARROLL and MIKE PUGH have been named winners of the 1994 David C. Williamson Jr. Award of Excellence by Lewis-Gale Hospital.

Two winners - one from direct patient care and one from indirect care - are selected annually in recognition for their service, commitment and provision of excellence in patient care.

Carroll, direct patient care winner, is the night charge nurse in the hospital's intensive care department.

Pugh, indirect care winner, is a purchasing specialist for surgical services in the hospital.

\ LEE F. BROOKS, a personal financial planner with IDS Financial Services Inc., has been named a certified financial planner by the International Board of Standards and Practices for Certified Financial Planners Inc.

Brooks, a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, is a member of the International Association for Financial Planning and serves on the board of directors of Camp Virginia Jaycee and the executive committee of the Roanoke Symphony Volunteer Association.

\ ROY M. CARPENTER of Roanoke has received the T.P.A. Merit Award from the Virginia Division of the Travelers Protective Association of America.

The award recognizes members' volunteer work. Carpenter's activities in the association involve safety and community service programs.

\ TONYA D. MITCHEM has been elected operations officer of First Union National Bank of Virginia.

The operations officer is responsible for the proof department service for offices in Roanoke, Martinsville, Bedford, Blacksburg and other parts of Western Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley.

Mitchem is a graduate of National Business College and joined the bank's item processing department in 1985.

\ JAMES E. COOK, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Cook of Roanoke, has been elected systems officer of Wachovia Operational Services Corp. in Winston-Salem, N.C. He is a senior analyst/programmer in the information services group.

\ ROBIN R. KAHL of Ferguson Andrews & Assoc. Inc. in Roanoke has been named to the 1994 Captain's Club of PLANCO, a wholesaler of fixed and variable annuities. She was named because of her efforts to help her clients with their retirement planning. Kahl has 14 years of experience in the financial services and investment counseling field. This is the second time she has received this honor.
