POINTS OF LIGHT LEADER TO SPEAK

Robert Goodwin, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Points of Light Foundation in Washington, will lead a two-day Roanoke symposium this week on communities, leadership and volunteer development.

Joining him as symposium leader will be Anthony Jeffrey, a social planner and coordinator of Community Development Block Grant programs for Detroit.

The symposium is sponsored by Total Action Against Poverty's Office of Community Development and Outreach and by the Council of Community Services' Volunteer Action Center.

Symposium events begin with a noon luncheon Thursday for social service providers and neighborhood leaders at the Henry Street Music Center. A town meeting on "Leadership and Volunteerism - Revival for Survival" will be held there at 7 that night for Roanoke residents and neighborhood leaders.

Friday at the music center, Goodwin and Jeffrey will lead an 8 a.m. breakfast meeting on volunteerism for ministers and a noon lunch meeting on volunteerism for volunteers, service providers and neighborhood leaders. The symposium ends with a wine reception open to the public at 5 p.m. Friday in the lobby of the Crystal Tower building at Second Street and Campbell Avenue Southwest.

For information, call Martin Jeffrey or Sharon Young at TAP, 345-6781.
